William Lynn Pettingill Obituary
April 6, 1951 – January 13, 2019
Twin Falls – William “Bill” Lynn Pettingill, a resident of Twin Falls Idaho, passed away Sunday morning January 13, 2019 at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Twin Falls.
Bill was born to William Elihu Pettingill and Patricia Ann Felton on April 6, 1951 in Burley Idaho. He was the first of six children and was followed by five younger sisters.
As a boy he was very adventurous. He had a lifelong love of music that began as he played the Piano in his early years and continued as he later fell in love with the Guitar while in High School. Bill was a great athlete and loved Basketball. He participated in Track and Field as a senior in High school, placing at the district meet in each of the events in which he participated.
As a young man he served in the North German Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (1970-1972). While there, he developed a great love for the German people, embracing their language and culture. Later in life, and at the request of church leadership, he authored a book “On Reading Old German Handwriting” for the purpose of assisting in family history work.
Bill attended Brigham Young University and while there earned his Bachelor’s degree in Child Development and Family Relations. During his time at BYU he loved teaching German at the Language Training Mission (Missionary Training Center). Bill married Judy Hill in 1974, and had 5 beautiful children: Trevor, Tyler, Melinda, Todd and Anne. In his early career, he was a successful salesman in both the printing and hardware businesses and enjoyed traveling and getting to know his clients. In 1992 Bill returned to school to pursue a Master’s Degree in Social Work and spent the remainder of his working life helping others as a School, Individual, Marriage, and Family Counselor. He loved his work and the many people whose lives he touched.
In 1992 Bill met the love of his life, Teresa Curtis. They were married in the Logan temple on October 24, 1992 and celebrated 26 anniversaries together. Will and Dallan were born a few years after their marriage, completing Bill’s family and bringing him great joy.
As an adult Bill enjoyed camping, four wheeling, flying his own home built gyrocopter, science fiction movies, especially Star Trek, his beloved dog Bear, being with family and playing his guitar. Sharing his musical talents with others brought him great joy and uplifted those close to him. His children feel forever connected to him through his music and the memories he made for them as he sang and played his guitar.
Bill is survived by his wife Teresa; 7 children, Trevor (Rochelle), Tyler (Ashley), Melinda (Darin), Todd (Onjali), Anne (Dan), Will and Dallan; 15 grandchildren; his father William “Bill” Senior; and sisters Debra Barlow (Brian), Tami Isaacson, Trudie Dymock (Ron), and Paula John.
