On July 13th, 2018, Sarah Kathryn Mercer, age 85, of Twin Falls, Idaho was surrounded by family when she left this earth to be with her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ.
Sarah was born on June 15, 1933 in Moultrie, Georgia to Frank & Juline Schaeffer. She was number two of three beautiful girls. Her sisters, Ann Grimes (Richard) and Nancy James (Jerry) live with their children and grandchildren in Georgia and surrounding States. They describe Sarah as being the “sweet, spunky one, and daddy’s favorite.” The three sisters have an amazing bond of love that goes beyond any distance and can never be broken. Sarah also has many nieces, nephews, and others at “home” in the South that she loved dearly.
On October 7th, 1953 Sarah was married to Major Charles Houston Mercer. They were married for 50 years when Charles passed away in 2004. Charles was fighter pilot in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and Sarah loved being an “Air Force Wife”. She was always very involved in activities such as the Officers’ Wives Club and traveled to Japan with Charles and their first 2 children when he was stationed there. Sarah and Charles have 3 daughters; Patti Kirchner (Joe) and Lynn Beauregard (Bob), both living in Twin Falls Idaho and Debbie Kytle (Kip), living in Jerome, Idaho. Sarah loved her daughters dearly, but her pride and joy was her 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. More than anything, she loved seeing her great grandchildren and giving them big hugs and “sugar kisses” on their neck.
Everyone who met Sarah fell in love with her and she loved everyone she met no matter who they were. It was not uncommon for her to tell a new friend how much she loved them and say “gimme a hug” after their first conversation. Her bright, loving, sweet, and silly personality always filled the room. Many would call Sarah their “Georgia Peach” or “Southern Belle” and most everyone who knew her described her as very humble, sweet, & fun-loving. She was never afraid to be goofy and frequently did so, especially with her grandchildren, just to have some fun. She had zero interest in material things and poured all her passion into loving God and loving others. Sarah was also very active with her church family at Twin Falls Reformed Church. She especially loved the praise music and would frequently be the first standing in awe of her Lord Jesus when praise songs were being sung. Her sweet love, joy, silliness, acceptance of others, and true servant heart will always be remembered and a true example for us all.
