Mia Rose Trease

August 6, 2005 — July 11, 2018

Mia Rose Trease, age 12 of Filer Idaho, passed away at home surrounded by her family on July 11, 2018 after a brave and courageous fight with cancer.

Mia was born in Twin Falls Idaho on August 6, 2005 to John Matthew Trease and Amaris Hughes Trease.  She attended grades K-7th at Filer Elementary and Filer Middle School.

Mia loved to make people laugh. She often had to be reminded that some people had bubbles and that pinching or slapping their butts was borderline inappropriate.  She loved a good competition, and rarely could you find her on the sideline. She was very determined to be the leader.  Not much intimidated her, she grew up with aunts and uncles a few years older than her, so she would gladly accept a challenge to play against high school and college aged kids.  She excelled at sports and grew a great love for all of them, but softball stole her heart.  She loved playing catcher and was known to spend a weekend catching 5-6 games straight in 90-degree weather.  She also enjoyed swimming. After going on a family vacation this past year and discovering she could still swim, she reached out and did some research to find herself a swim team to join and just recently helped with a session of swim lessons at the filer pool.  While sports were her first love she was always up for anything if other people were involved.  Since she was little she was never able to sit still and watch TV up until this past year she never enjoyed going to the movies because they were boring.  She enjoyed making crafts and watching you tube videos for ideas, she mastered the technique of creating every kind of slime imaginable and recently fell in love with music and taught herself how to play the piano and guitar.  Mia had a love for children!  She was always trying to steal a hug from them or tease them.  They migrated to her and even at Primary Children’s Hospital this past year it was evident the instant bond she was able to create with them.  She was known as the chemotherapy poster child because even though she was so sick she would still get up and go visiting kids and deliver gift baggies that were given to her by a friend and cancer survivor.  If there was a child, sad, newly diagnosed or needed a friend, the staff at Primary’s would come and find Mia.  She made so many friends there that she begged to go visit frequently after finishing treatment.  She loved when her cousins would come and visit, and weekends filled with sleepovers and parties were one of her favorite things.  Her favorite subject was PE and she loved any teacher that would put up with her shenanigans.  She enjoyed going to church and being involved in young women’s and going to do baptisms at the temple with her friends and grandparents.

Mia was preceded in death by her Great grandparents O’dell and Annie Romer, Floyd Trease and Adren Hughes.  She is survived by her parents Matt and Amaris Trease, siblings Cooper, Welsey and Ali Trease.  Grandparents Jim and RoseAnn Hughes, Rhonda Read and John Trease, Great Grandparents Gena Trease, Rachel Hughes, Tom and Elaine Udink.

The family would like to thank all the medical professionals that have spent the last year taking care of Mia.  A special thanks to Dr. Mason and Cat Ramos of St. Luke’s, Dr. Fair, Becky, Micah and Caitlan of Primary Children’s.  Her favorite nurses, Megan Bassett, Emily Carp, Madi Traveller, and Riley, music therapist Dana Leal and art therapist Juniper.  Her physical therapist Dennis Gillette and Buck Taylor, her home health and hospice nurse Sophie Swearingen.  They would also like to express their gratitude to the people of Twin Falls County and surrounding areas for all the support and prayers on their family’s behalf this past year!

A funeral will be held on Saturday July 21, 2018 at 11:00am at the Filer High School.  There will be a viewing at Parkes Funeral Home in Twin Falls, Idaho on Friday July 20, 2018 from 6:00-8:00pm and again Saturday from 9:30-10:30am at the Filer High School.
