Ron Dabney was born March 7th, 1948 in Burlington, Iowa the son of Osro and Marjorie Dabney. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1966. He left this earth for a better place on July 7th, 2018.
After graduating from High School, Ron joined the United States Marine Corps and spent 30 months fighting in the Vietnam Conflict. Ron was at Hue City and then Khe Sahn during the 1968 Tet Offensive. He received numerous awards and medals for his honorable service and was wounded three times.
In 1970, Ron married Dee Bergquist (N.D. Class of 1968) and they lived in Burlington, Iowa for a short time. Ron worked for a furniture wholesaler as a salesman and was offered a position in the Northwest. Ron and Dee chose Twin Falls as their new home and moved there in 1975.
After serving his Country, Ron spent many years working as a salesman and traveling the countryside for his job. He chose to resign from that lifestyle to find something that would allow him to be close to home and watch his children as they grew. Ron went to Boise State University to obtain a teaching certificate then taught American Government and English for seven years at Twin Falls High School.
Ron was very engaged with his community and children in the years to come. He coached Little League baseball, Little League All-Stars, girls’ softball, boys Babe Ruth as well as their All-Star teams. He enjoyed playing golf, reading, his dogs over the years, walking and as time moved on, his grandchildren. Ron was especially fond of his weekly golf games and all the golfers over the years that put up with him. To those friends, he wanted to say farewell!
Ron was preceded in death by his mother and father, Osro and Marjorie Dabney, three of his favorite uncles (Marvin, Charles and Fred), his Grandfather, Irvin Lawler and by his grandmother who lived to be over 103 years old, Louise Lawler of Burlington, Iowa.
