Betty June Hawkins, 93, of Twin Falls, passed away June 23, 2018 at Grace Assisted Living Center in Twin Falls, Idaho.
She was born on September 12, 1924 in Fremont Nebraska, the daughter of George Arthur and June E. Breitenfelt. Betty graduated from Freemont High School in 1942 and went on to attend Linwood College in St. Charles, MO. from 1942 – 1943. She then graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1946 with a BS Degree in Education and English. Betty taught school in California during the Korean War, later moving on to teach in Idaho. She and Maxine Ryan owned a Kindergarten for a few years in Idaho, during a time when Kindergarten was not part of public education.
Betty married Bill J. Hawkins on March 30, 1946. Together they raised three children – Brian, Barry and Barbara. Her loving husband - Bill and daughter – Barbara, along with her parents and brother – Bill Baldwin preceded her in death. She is survived by his two sons – Brian of Portland, Oregon and Barry of Castle Rock, Colorado, along with four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was active in many club and civic organizations during her life time. Being a member of the Order of the Eastern star for 62 + years, serving twice as state officer and twice as state representative, once to Indiana and once to Florida, along with many other appointments along the way. She also served as Worthy Matron of Filer Chapter 30 O.E.S. In addition she was a member of the PEO for 49 + years, where she served as past President in Twin Falls. While in college she was president of the Alpha Phi Sorority House during her senior year, and serving as house manager during her junior year at University of Nebraska.
Betty was also a member of the Twin Falls First United Methodist Church, where she served as Secretary for the Board and taught Sunday school and held other offices during her 60 + years of membership. She loved golf her entire life and was a member of the Blue Lake Country Club and played at Twin Falls Muni Golf Course serving there as president of the Ladies Golf Association in the late 70’s along with other offices held during the years.
Her and Bill enjoyed travel and toured Europe several times and traveled the US in their RV. They were members of the Twin Falls Blue Birds for many years. She loved animals and loved her dogs Susie and Randy.
A celebration of life memorial will take place on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Rd. in Twin Falls.
