Duane Ellison Silcock

Duane Ellison Silcock, age 90, of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away Thursday April 26, 2018 at Genesis Care Center in Twin Falls Idaho of complications following pneumonia.

Duane was born November 5, 1927 in Burley Idaho to Charles “Ren” and Emma Silcock. He grew up in Wendell and Jerome, Idaho where he helped his dad farm. He graduated from Jerome High School in 1947 and earned two special awards. He loved participating in High School Boxing. He was awarded the Northwest Golden Glove Feather Weight Champion in 1947. He was also awarded the Davis Trophy Award for the most outstanding student in High School.

Duane met the love of his life, Barbara Lenon at the LDS Church in Jerome. They were married on May 20, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple. They started on a farm behind his parents house in Jerome, eventually moved to Burley and finally settled in Twin Falls. During their marriage they had four wonderful children. On May 20, 2018 they would’ve been married for 66 years.

Duane continued to farm and also went to work for Amalgamated Sugar Co. He worked many years at Amalgamated Sugar Co. as a Sugar-end Foreman and retired in June 1987. Duane loved to fish down at Hagerman and Billingsley Creek. He would take his children and grandchildren there and taught them how to fish. He greatly loved fishing with his grandchildren. He also loved to go camping with the family to Alturas Lake. He also loved to restore old cars and bicycles. He especially loved restoring old Studebaker cars. He displayed his cars in many car shows around the Magic Valley. Duane also was seen in many parades around the valley with his restored bicycles. Duane was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved the Church and served in many positions and was always willing to serve and help many people. He was always a very hard worker and taught his children to work hard and be kind to everyone. Duane always had a big smile, never complained, and was always whistling a song. He will be greatly missed.

Duane is survived by his wife Barbara and three children. Rick, Tucson AZ, Glen (Judy) Surprise AZ & TF ID, Brenda (Mike) Hayes, Kimberly ID. He has 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother Rex TF ID, and one sister Darlene Engelbrecht, Delta UT.

He is proceeded in death by his parents; son Chris, and two brothers, Gene and Gale and one sister Shirley Lawrence.

Viewing Services will be conducted from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday May 1, 2018 at Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home. Also on Wednesday May 2, 2018 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. a viewing will be conducted at the LDS Church on Elizabeth for friends and family to pay their respects.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday May 2,2018 at The 3rd, 9th, 17th LDS Church Building on Elizabeth Blvd. Burial will follow after the services at the Twin Falls Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home.
