Dorothy Marie (“Dottie”) Miller was born in the Bronx, in New York City, February 26, 1935. She passed away in Twin Falls, Idaho on April, 20th 2018. She was the oldest daughter of John Joseph Jordan, of Irish ancestry, born in Bayonne, New Jersey and Marie Ellen Gilling, with Swedish roots, born in Newark, New Jersey. She has a sister, Patricia Bonnie, and had a older brother John Jordan who died from a childhood illness.
Dottie married her first husband right after graduating from Vincentian Academy, Catholic high school in New York. She had two children, Linda and Bill. She lost her little girl, Linda, to hydrocephalus at age three. Dottie divorced and then married Robert Christian Miller in 1966. Robert adopted Bill and the young couple had a little girl they named Wendy. The Miller family moved from upstate New York to Twin Falls, Idaho in 1970. Dorothy worked for New York Bell Telephone in New York. When she came to Twin Falls she worked as the director for Head Start. She also was a manager at the Magic Valley Regional Medical Center, overseeing the admitting office, volunteer services, and environmental services.
Dottie was very active in the Twin Falls community. She worked on the Juvenile Diversion Board, and was a member of Toastmasters and Welcome Wagon, where she had served as President. Dottie was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, where she served on the Vestry and taught Sunday School. She was also an active member and past President of her P.E.O. chapter. Dottie love to play both couples and singles bridge. When Dottie retired, she traveled the world with her husband. They went to China, India, Europe, Greece, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Canada and most of the United States. Dottie leaves behind her husband Robert, son Bill, daughter Wendy, sister Pat, three grandchildren, Ashley, Zoe, and Kate, and one great-grandchild, Avery. Her legacy of wisdom, caring, gratitude and a fun-loving spirt will be carried on by the next generations of strong women and men she has mentored.
Services for Dottie will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Twin Falls, Idaho at 11:00 a.m. on May 4, 2018. Flowers may be sent to Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home and donations in Dottie’s honor can be made to the P.E.O. chapter of Twin Falls, Idaho.
