Juanita Stettler

August 6, 1922 — April 8, 2018

Juanita (Nita) F. Stettler passed away on April 8, 2018 at Brookdale Senior Living in Twin Falls. She was 95. Nita was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who inspired and nurtured those around her. She had a quiet personality and soft spoken voice, and will be remembered as a wonderful lady with a positive outlook on life.

 
Nita was born on September 6, 1922 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Winifred and John Clyde Poe. The family moved to Kimberly when she was a young child. She graduated from Kimberly High School and then attended business school in Los Angeles before returning to the Twin Falls area at the beginning of World War II. Nita started working at the Twin Falls County Treasurer’s office in 1943 as a deputy clerk. Nita rose to the position of Chief Deputy County Treasurer before successfully running for the elected position of Twin Falls County Treasurer in 1978. She held that office until her retirement in 1987.

Nita married Ellis Stettler in 1947 in Twin Falls and they had one son, Dennis. Nita and Ellis remained in Twin Falls and were married for 63 years until Ellis passed away in 2011. Nita enjoyed visiting the Sawtooth Mountains, traveling, gardening, and art.

Nita is survived by her son, Dennis Stettler and daughter-in-law Beverly Stettler of Edmonds, Washington; her grandson, Greg Stettler, M.D., of Denver, Colorado; and her sister, Lorene Mulder of Twin Falls. She is preceded in death by her husband Ellis, and her sister Doris Scherupp.

Services will be held at Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 2:00 pm, with a viewing from 1:30 to 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Visions or the charity of your choice.
