Dick was born January 22, 1928, to Ray N. Machamer and Rose Alice Hiatt in Aurora, Nebraska. He came to Burley as a young child with his Mother and was raised by a wonderful stepfather, Earl Freymiller. Dick met the gal he was meant to marry and after a short romance period he married Maxine Carter from Filer, Idaho, on April 16, 1952. In 2017 they celebrated 65 years of marriage. Dick worked at Laymasters Jeweler in Idaho Falls shortly after college graduation and then Marion Tanner Jewelers, before moving to work 40 years at Sterling Jewelry in Twin Falls. After Sterling Jewelry closed, he started his own business next door called Dick’s Trophies until retiring in 1992. He continued engraving for many years afterwards. Dick was a member of Twin Falls United Methodist Church; Twin Falls Masonic Lodge #45 for 64 years and is a Prepaid Life Member. He served as Worshipful Master four terms (1960-1984-1991-92) and District Deputy Grand Master three terms (1985-87, 1998-2000, 2008-10). He was selected to be Worshipful Grand Historian, Grand Lodge of Idaho in 1997. He is a Past Advisor of DeMolay, and Past State Dean of Preceptory, Legion of Honor for DeMolay. He received the Apron Degree from DeMolay and Mason of the Year Award for District 6 in 2001. Dick was also a member of ElKorah Shrine, Twin Falls Shrine Club and loved earning funds for the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. He was a 57 year member, along with his wife Maxine, of Twin Falls Chapter #29, OES, and served as Worthy Patron with her in 1964. He served as Grand Representative of Nevada in 1982 and of New Mexico in 2013. He is a Past President of Twin Falls Bluebirds, Good Sam Camping Club and enjoyed their many camping trips. Dick spent many years working with Troup #67 Boy Scouts and Advisor of Explorer Post #67. The last few years he enjoyed volunteering at the Chamber of Commerce Visitors center explaining history and Twin Falls locations to its many visitors. He enjoyed being the Santa for many years at the Twin Falls Magic Mall. Until the last few years, Dick really enjoyed cooking and collected many cookbooks. He loved working in the garden and reading Westerns. He and Maxine traveled to several places in their retirement years, including much of Europe, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii and went on several cruises. For their 50th Anniversary, the couple made a trip to Spain and Portugal. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Earl Freymiller, and his cherished wife Maxine. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, sister, Karen, her husband Jon, and nieces and nephews on both his and Maxine’s side of the family. He will be missed, but has gone on to be with his love, Maxine, who left us in October of last year to prepare a place for him. A Masonic Rites service will be held on Monday April 23rd, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Rd. Twin Falls, Idaho. Arrangements are under the direction of Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests Dick’s wishes be honored and that donations be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children Memorial Fund - Intermountain Unit, Salt Lake City.
