Cathy Burke, Magic Valley Resident, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2018, from complications following a neurological disorder.
Born Cathryn Ann Paul on August 18th, 1944 to James and Ruth Paul in Seattle, Washington, she was the youngest of four children. In 1962, Cathy Graduated from Mount Lake Terrace High School in North Seattle.
Cathy met her eventual husband, Jack Burke, in 1958, where they dated occasionally through the years. Cathy moved to California and Jack went into the service. They later reconnected and married on June 5th, 1964. Shortly after marriage, the two purchased a small farm in Bothell, WA and started their life-long love of horsemanship and rodeo. They had one son, Jay, on Sept. 13th, 1967. They would be there until they moved to Idaho in November of 1974.
Cathy was always very motivated and held many different positions throughout her work career, from business administration to sales. In the 1980’s she started selling advertising for a horse specific publication called, HorseTimes. She was a natural sales person and clearly had a love for horses - it was a great fit! Cathy also thoroughly enjoyed the process of helping people find the perfect horse, or helping the horse find the perfect person (she was a horse and rider match-maker). This was a passion she would continue to pursue until just a couple years ago.
In Idaho, Cathy and her family lived in Wendell for many years until Jack and Cathy purchased some land North of Shoshone. There they would build a beautiful home for themselves and all of their horses and animals. They enjoyed spending winters in Wickenburg, AZ and found many new friends from all over the West, most with the same interest in horses. The couple always looked forward to their annual winter months in the warm weather of Arizona.
Cathy was loved by many and will be missed by all of her friends and family, and faithful dog, Pepsi.
There will be a “Celebration of Life” picnic for Cathy later this spring where we look forward to sharing our fond memories and stories.
