Melvin (Mel) Eugene Preckel, 84, of Boise, Idaho passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital in Twin Falls on October 19, 2017 of natural causes.
Mel was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on November 15, 1933 to Gustavel and Edna Preckel. He graduated from Twin Falls High School and later joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952. Mel or “Large Sarg” as he was called was honorably discharged after becoming a F.S. Pilot and receiving various medals.
Mel married Phyllis J. Jones in 1960 with her three small children, Stan, Steve and Stacey at their sides. Mel always considered them his own and quickly adopted them. In 1961 they had a baby girl, Stephanie (Taffy) and they were now all blessed to the Best Dad in the world!
Mel was a strong hard worker in many trades. He was and owner operator of Preckel & Sons (P & S) Trenching in Jerome, Idaho. He also was the operator of Cable Vision in Jerome when cable t.v., was first being introduced to the public. He later moved to Boise, Idaho where he worked for Capital Care Center and due to his battle with cancer, he retired. However, Mel did not sit idly by. He became an amateur gold miner, which he truly loved and enjoyed very much. He also enjoyed being in the mountains where he would hunt, fish and prospect gold. When you wouldn’t find him in the mountains he would be tinkering in his garage or hanging out with his beloved dog “Koli.”
Mel was proceeded in death by his precious grandchildren, Ralaena Hadath and Tyson Mitchell, his former wives Phyllis Jones, Bea Preckel and Sue Preckel respectively.
He is survived by his children, Stan, Steve, Stacey and Stephanie. Also his grandchildren Ryan Hadath, Jeremy and Jasmine Preckel and Tyson’s precious daughter Navaeh.
Mel will be missed by all who had the honor to know him. He was our friend, dad and grandpa.
Dad, we all love you very much and will miss everything about you. You will be in our hearts forever.
Mel now lays to rest at the Veteran Cemetery in Boise, Idaho. If anyone would like, please make your donation to your local veterans hospital.
I Miss You
I cried when you passed away.
I still cry today.
Although I loved you dearly,
I couldn’t make you stay.
Your golden heart stopped beating,
hard working hands at rest.
GOD broke my heart to prove to me
He only takes the best.
Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls. Those who wish may share memories and condolences on his memorial page at www.magicvalleyfuneralhome.com
