James “Jim” R. Chapin, 76. passed away in the presence of his family October 19, 2017, at his home in Twin Falls after a long battle with cancer.
James was born Sept. 26, 1941, in Twin Falls, Idaho, the son of Arthur and Annamari Kauffman Chapin. James graduated from Twin Falls Senior High in 1959. He served four years with the United States Air Force before returning to marry the love of his life, Judy Holloway, on June 5, 1966. James worked 31 years for the United States Postal Service. He resided in Twin Falls his entire life.
James enjoyed spending time in the mountains camping. In his younger years he loved hunting and fishing. He was a boy scout leader and baseball coach so he could be involved in the lives of his children and others. He also enjoyed woodworking and crafted many clocks and banks out of post office doors. James and his wife enjoyed many craft shows sharing their crafts and meeting people from all over the country. He always said he only liked two kinds of pie, hot and cold. James enjoyed having coffee with his friends and never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Martin Leroy Chapin.
James is survived by his wife, Judy; his daughter, Melinda (Kevin) Klimes, his son, Scott (Denise) and grandchildren, Danielle Chapin, Paul Klimes, Annamari Klimes, Clinton Chapin, and Trudy Chapin. He is survived by his sisters, Pauline Eldredge, Ann (Sam) Middleton, and Peg (Bob) Mixdorf and by his brothers, Harry (Marge) Chapin, Charles “Chuck” (Jackie) Chapin and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Friday, October 27, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church 209 5th Ave North, Twin Falls, Idaho. Graveside services following.
