Maxine R. Machamer

May 28, 1932 — October 15, 2017

Maxine R. Carter Machamer, age 85, of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away suddenly on October 15, 2017.

Maxine was born on May 28, 1932 to Harvey R. Carter and Nellie Jefferies Carter at Filer, Idaho.  She attended schools in Filer, graduating from Filer High School in 1950, as salutatorian. She also attended Twin Falls Business College.

Maxine met the love of her life and married Richard N. (Dick) Machamer on April 16, 1952.  They had two children together: Daughter, Sheryal Lynn Balding (David) currently of Shelton, Washington; and Son, Douglas Lance Machamer (Barbara), currently of Overland Park, Kansas. She was blessed with four grandchildren: Kevin Balding, Justin Machamer, Ryan Machamer and Meagan Machamer.

Maxine was dedicated to jobs she held. She worked for Bennett’s Twin Falls Glass & Paint and The Glassman as office manager and she served several years on the Twin Falls Election Board. She also served as an elected officer in many organizations to which she belonged.

She was a member of Twin Falls United Methodist Church; Twin Falls Chapter #29, Order of the Eastern Star for 62 years. She served three terms as Worthy Matron for the local Eastern Star Chapter (1964, 1994, 2004-05.) and Secretary of the Chapter for several years. She served as Grand Marshal for the State of Idaho OES in 1974 and as Worthy Grand Matron of Grand Chapter of Idaho in 1981-82.  She was appointed General Grand Chapter Committee Member, 1985-88, and Special Friend, 1994-97, Angel in Disguise for Most Worthy Grand Matron, 2000-2003. She was also a member of Daughters of the Nile, Iris Temple #40, Zenobia Club #2; PEO Chapter BP; Past President of Twentieth Century Club. She and Dick enjoyed camping and their membership in the Twin Falls Good Sam Bluebirds. She volunteered at the Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center for the last several years and earlier years spent much time with Campfire Girls and Job’s Daughters. Her notable hobbies were sewing and collecting anything with a butterfly on it.  Friends often called her house “Maxine’s Butterfly House.”

She and Dick enjoyed there many travels over the years including much of Europe, Mexico, Canada, and Hawaii. Maxine especially enjoyed cruises with their friends. For their 50th Anniversary, she & Dick traveled to Spain and Portugal. Maxine was a football and baseball fan, particularly to the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners. She rarely missed watching a Mariners game and knew the names of every player that has played for the team. A favorite memory was getting to attend games in person.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Nellie Carter; four brothers, Raymond, Conrad, Earl, and Robert; and three sisters, Lucille, Berniece, and LaPrell. She is survived by her husband, children and grandchildren, and one brother, Eldon Carter, as well as many nieces and nephews on her and Dick’s side of the family and sister-in-law (Dick’s sister), Karen and husband Jon Riggs.
