Mildred Evelyn Malone Britt, 90, of Twin Falls, Idaho, passed away at Ashley Manor with family by her side on September 24, 2017, due to incidents of age.
Mildred was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on August 2, 1927 to Leslie and Lulue Malone. She was the youngest of four children. She attended Maroa School in the Filer area and graduated from Filer High School.
Mildred married Harold “Dean” Britt at St. Edwards’ Catholic Church in Twin Falls on January 8, 1948.
They moved to Kimberly and in 1951 was able to buy their first farm. Throughout their marriage, mom and dad had a small dairy and farmed. For many of those years, mom and dad farmed alone. They were very tied to the farm and consequently, they were never able to travel as mom would love to have been able to do. They farmed in Kimberly together until 1999 when dad’s health required them to retire. Soon after they moved into Twin Falls.
Mom always wanted to be a mother and finally in 1956 had their first daughter, Phyllis, soon to be followed by Janet Anne. Unfortunately, Janet passed away 3 months before their third daughter, Melody was born.
Family was everything to mom and she dedicated her life to raising her daughters. She spent many years as a 4-H leader, teaching countless young people lifelong skills. She continued that tradition as a 4-H leader for her grandchildren, too.
Mom and dad were members of the Kimberly Grange for years, holding many different offices. They also loved to play pinochle and took every opportunity they could to play with their friends. In their later years they were involved in the pinochle groups with St. Edwards Catholic Church as often as they could.
When mom was 75 she took her first job away from home as a Costco food sampler. She was so proud of that job and looked forward to going to work every day. She served samples for 8 years but wished she could have never retired from there. She really missed it but she was dad’s full time caregiver and he was glad to have her home with him. She dedicated much to him in his last years of illness. 2012 was a hard year for her as she buried dad, all 3 of her siblings and many close and dear friends. She tried to continue to be active and started attending the Twin Falls Senior Citizens for exercising. She wanted to be involved in everything that she could find to do. She loved to go out to lunch every day, taking family whenever she could.
She continued to live in her own home until a bout with pneumonia in 2016 which was more than she could recover from. In May 2016, she moved to Ashley Manor in Twin Falls. That was hard on her independence as her dementia advanced. We will always love her for the many wonderful things that she did for her family! There was never a more dedicated mother and grandmother!
She is survived by her two daughters, Phyllis Speirs and Melody (Norman) Hatke and 8 grandchildren, Heather Boggess, Katie (Sean) O’Keefe, Nicholas (Marie) Speirs, Jennifer (Mike) Tilley, Stephanie (Tony) Berrett, Christopher (Suzi) Speirs, Kenny (Michelle) Hatke and Keri (Johnny) Koehler. She also loved to tell everyone that she had 25 great-grandchildren!
We want to thank Dr. Ippolitto for his decades of care to mom and Ashley Manor for their loving staff that help mom reach 90 years of age. She didn’t reach her 100th birthday as she had always hoped to do but she lived a very full and active life and we will all miss her! Her favorite color was red so think of her whenever you wear red!
Her funeral services will be held at Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home. There will be a viewing on Thursday, September 28, at Parke's from 5-7 pm, followed by a rosary. The funeral service will be Friday, September 29, at Parke's at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
