Bettie Marie Christian, age 84, of Twin Falls Idaho, took the lords hand on July 20th 2017. She left us peacefully at home after we all had kissed her good morning. She slipped away with granddaughter Briana by her side and her daughter Lucy near.
Bettie was born in Shreveport Louisiana in 1932 to Golda and John Bates. She was the oldest of three children, Jay and Mary both deceased. Her protector and beloved baby brother died two days prior to Mom, so she wouldn’t be scared.
Bettie left Louisiana at an early age, her family moved around. She was 15 when her family came to Twin Falls, Idaho. She attended Beauty Arts Academy and became a licensed Cosmetologist in 1950. Throughout her life she worked at Artistic Beauty Salon, Children’s Village, and Roger Bros Seed.
On May 25th 1950 she married Donald Keith Christian at The First Baptist Church in Twin Falls. They would have been married 67 years. They had four children Pam (Mike) Kuhn, Duane (Lucy) Christian, Dawn Christian (Tee Fisher), all of Twin Falls, Greg Christian of Washington. Her pride and joy of life was her grandchildren Christian and Briana Rieth, Garrett and Cooper Scarrow, Jordan Fisher, Caden Christian, and one Great Grandchild Christian Hunter Rieth.
She loved going to the movies and action flicks were her favorites. She always went to play productions around the valley. Mom and Dad loved to dance and were quite the ballroom dancers. She enjoyed camping trips and time around a campfire was her favorite time. She loved to shop and always wore snappy clothes. She spent many hours at the lake watching her children waterski.
Her true joy in life was caring for all her grandkids, she became Nanny when Christian was born. She quit working to stay home with them, she didn’t want any of her grandkids going to a daycare. She spent countless hours in the recliner watching cartoons, reading, making funny noises. She made sure they had the best of care, kissed and loved on them all day, she wanted her babies to know she loved them. In return she had a close relationship with them all especially her only granddaughter Briana. Briana has been by her side for years making sure her Nanny was cared for, they were best friends.
Nanny had a kind and giving heart. She never had an ugly word to say about anyone. She made sure she told you she loved you and kissed and hugged before anyone left. She always looked for some good in people. She had embarrassing pet names for us all. She was our funny, goofy, loving, Mom and Nanny. Mom touched lives with her loving and caring nature. Our friends growing up felt her compassion, hugging our Mom like they did their own kissing her goodbye when they left.
Her family would like to thank her beloved daughter Lucy for opening her home and taking excellent care of our Mother and seeing that her wishes were granted. Briana for never leaving Nannies side and taking such care with her. To Hospice Visions for helping us to make her comfortable at home. To her best friend Virginia for over 50 years of true friendship.
