Lois Lena Marie Robinson Troxell

Lois Lena Marie Robinson Troxell, 94, of Twin Falls, passed away Monday, May 1, 2017, at the Chardonnay Assisted Living Center in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Lois was born August 25, 1922, in Hatton, Arkansas, the daughter of Carey Blythe and Mary Randolph Robinson.  As a young child, she and her family moved to San Perleta, Texas, where she attended school and worked on the family farm.  In 1939, she met and married the love of her life, Raymond Bud Troxell.  They always had to laugh remembering when Bud asked Lois’ dad if he could have permission to marry her.  Her dad replied, “Please, take her!”  Then Bud had to borrow a few dollars to pay the preacher. After they were married, Bud taught Lois how to drive. Being there were very few roads, they took off across one of the fields on their farm.  Because this was a car without doors or windows, the breeze caused Lois’ dress to fly up and she grabbed it to hold it down.  Bud exclaimed, “I’ll hold your dress down, you hold on to the steering wheel!”  They were married for 60 wonderful years and had great times together.

In 1940, Bud and Lois moved to Post, Texas, where they raised cattle and worked the cotton gin.  Lois always said she didn’t miss her time picking cotton.  In 1943, Bud joined the Navy and while he was in the Philippines, Lois and her sister-in-law, Sue Desenberger, traveled to Illinois to work in an aircraft factory as “Rosie the Riveter.”  In 1949, Bud and Lois moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, because a Navy buddy had told Bud what a great place it was to live.

In 1953, they adopted a son, Larry Brent, who was the light in their life.  Lois was a stay-at-home mom until her son was old enough to attend school.  Lois then worked as a waitress at the Depot Grill for 15 years.

Another highlight in Lois’ life was visiting Larry while he was stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Germany.  She stayed for six weeks as they traveled to France, Holland, Switzerland, and all over Germany.  One major stop on returning from Paris was at the Moet & Chandon winery in Epernay, France, and the opportunity for a sample of champagne at the end of the tour.  She loved a good glass of champagne.   This vacation was the opportunity of a lifetime for her and she enjoyed it immensely.

A consummate mother and homemaker, Lois was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends.  Lois loved to laugh and have fun.  After she and Bud retired in 1979, they took up the game of golf.  From here they met many great people who became their friends.  They all went south together during the winter and camped, fished, and played golf around Idaho during the summer.  Bud and Lois were a significant part of their “Friday Night Club” consisting of eight couples.  They gathered every Friday night at one of the couple’s homes for drinks and hors d’oeuvres before going out to dinner.  Lois was the first individual in the Magic Valley to undergo a successful whipple procedure for pancreatic cancer and survive for another 33 years.  She was a true fighter to the very end.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, her parents, and her four sisters and three brothers.  Lois is survived by her son, Larry B. Troxell of Twin Falls, one grandson, Christopher L. Troxell and his wife, Belinda, great-grandsons Dechaun and Carter, and great-granddaughter, Halle, all of Meridian, Idaho, and many nieces and nephews.  Lois dearly loved her son, grandson, grand-daughter, and great-grandkids with all of her heart.  They were the light in her life.  She will be missed by all.

The family extends deep thanks and appreciation to the staff at Chardonnay Assisted Living Center for their kind and caring support over the past eight months.  The family also extends their most sincere gratitude to Hospice Visions for their excellent nursing care and family support.  The family could not have weathered Lois’ decline alone.

Memorials in Lois’ honor may be made to Interlink Volunteer Caregivers, 459 Locust Street North, # 106, Twin Falls, ID 83301, or to any cancer charity of your choice.
