Mary Belle Powell

November 24, 1928 — April 19, 2017

Mary Belle (or Aunt Merbel as her niece would call her) was born in  Kansas City, MO in 1928 to Herb and Bessie Hatmon.  She passed away on April 19, 2017 at Woodstone Retirement Center in Twin Falls.

She fell for a handsome Tennessean name Edmund Bruce Powell. They were married in 1945 while he was on leave from the Army Air Force. Honeymoon night was in the squeaky bed in her Mom & Dad's house.  They lived in Missouri, Colorado, Washington, and California, settling in Idaho. Mary worked most of her life to help support her family and because she wanted to.

Mary Belle sold Avon and later became a rural route mail carrier for the Twin Falls Post Office for 20+ years. She was an athlete - playing softball and volleyball until her knees betrayed her. She loved to fish and could be seen out by the canyon with her .410 shotgun hunting for pheasant. After the love of her life died, she was determined to carry on. But when she lost her sight, she moved to the Woodstone Heritage facility in Twin Falls.

A woman of faith and strong pioneer stock - she survived early farm living, lean years and the loss of two sons. She cared for her parents as they aged. She cared for her sister as she succumbed to cancer. She cared for her husband to the very end. She missed him terribly and they are reunited in heaven.

She was preceded in death by her husband, sons Bruce, and Tim, her brother and her sister.  She is survived by sons Roger Powell, Hansen, ID, Randy Powell, Brinnon, WA, and daughter Gwen (Larry) Adams, Naples, IT and a legacy of love including 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life with the residents will be held at Woodstone April 29, 2017 from  9:30-11:00 and there will be an open house at 1 pm at the family home in Hansen.

Those wishing to share memories or condolences may go to her memorial page at  www.magicvalleyfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hansen Public Library, 120 Maple Ave W., Hansen, Idaho. Arrangements were under the direction of Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls.
