Frances Schow

February 14, 1922 — March 9, 2017

Frances Valentine Pomeroy Schow , passed away March 9, 2017 at the age of 95 in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Frances was born on February 14, 1922 in Whittier, California to Francis Justin Pomeroy and Etta Florence Ritz. She is preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Schow, her brother, Kenneth Ritz Pomeroy, her sister Betty Jane Dyer, and 2 grandchildren Lissa Schow and Frank Adams.

Her father was a pioneer rancher of Fontenelle , Wyoming and this was where she spent her childhood years. In the late 1800's Chief Washakie of the Shoshone Indians was a friend to the Pomeroys, and his warriors often guarded their Fontenelle homestead.

She often talked about her childhood with fond memories, which included attending a one room schoolhouse, and ice skating on a nearby pond for recess. Even in her later stages of dementia, she never forgot her memories of her life on the ranch in Wyoming and longed to return there.

Her ancestry has a heraldry which carries her back to the tenth century. A descendant of the Devonshire Pomeroys who came to England with William the Conqueror in 1066. The Pomeroys fought bravely for William who became king and were rewarded with miles of Devonshire land in England on which the Berry-Pomeroy Castle was built and still stands today. Frances always felt very connected to her ancestors and was an avid genealogist who spent countless hours researching and preparing temple records for her ancestors.

She met her husband Douglas, while she was a freshman at the University of Idaho. He soon graduated and then attended medical school at the University of Oregon at Portland-OHSU. During a break in medical school, he married the love of his life, Frances, on Sept. 12, 1942. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Boise LDS Temple.

They lived in Salt Lake City, Utah during his internship at the University of Utah and his residency at LDS Hospital. Later they moved to Twin Falls, Idaho where Douglas set up his private practice in Gynecology and Obstetrics and where she lived until her passing.

She was an avid gardener, loved nature and had a kind heart for animals. Along with her interest in history and genealogy she also loved bowling, tole painting, reading, cooking and baking. She always made sure she had a fresh batch of cookies ready for her children or grandchildren when they came to visit. She had a funny sense of humor which she never lost even to the end.

Frances is survived by a brother, Russell Alfred Pomeroy, her children, Cheryl Adams, Dr. Douglas Schow, Jr and wife Anita, Nancy Ward and husband David, Karen Kaster and husband Rick, Janet Lindahl and husband Kirk She was blessed with 24 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 4 great great.grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed as a loving mother, grandmother and friend.
