Ron McDowell

August 5, 1945 — February 14, 2017

Ron was born August 5th, 1945 in Wendell, Idaho the son of Sidney and Edna McDowell. While growing up, Ron and his family lived in a number of places in Idaho and Nevada. The family settled in the Magic Valley, where Ron graduated from Twin Falls High School. On September 16th, 1966 he married Betty Lewis. She was the love of his life, and perhaps it’s fitting that he left this world on Valentine’s Day to join his sweetheart and dearly beloved wife. Ron was a devoted husband and a wonderful father. Along with Betty, he took great pride in raising two daughters and as a family they celebrated many happy times together, sharing a life of adventure outdoors – camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, and trail riding motorcycles. Ron also loved riding his Harley later in life and enjoyed some long road trips with friends and family.

Ron always loved time with his extended family as well, celebrating, sharing a meal, and gathering around afterward to share stories. Ron’s laugh was infectious, and he had the whole family laughing hard along with him at family stories and those from his days of truck driving.

Ron spent his career as a truck driver. In his younger years he drove truck with his Dad, and then provided for his family by driving for a few different companies before serving for many years at Meadow Gold Dairies from where he eventually retired. Ron’s easy manner and kind heart made him a quick friend to so many people. And, if you were to accompany him to any store in the Magic Valley and surrounding area where he’d been a delivery driver, you were sure to see beaming smiles and hear a cheerful, “Well, hello, Ron!” from anyone who worked there.

Ron is survived by his daughters; Marcy Bothwell of Boise, Idaho, and Jen Rast of Fairfield, Idaho; his dear granddaughter Molly Riepe of Boise, Idaho; 5 sisters, Joan McCarley of Lewiston, Idaho, Linda DeBord of Monroe, Washington, Sue Grimm of Clarkston, Washington, Connie Posey (Darin) of Jerome, Idaho, Brenda Conklin (Bob) of Wendell, Idaho; his sister-in-law Bonnie McDowell of Jerome, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. His loving wife, and his parents, two sisters, and his brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services will take place at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Community Christian Church, 303 Grandview Drive in Twin Falls, with Ted Hadley officiating. Interment and a small service for family and close friends will be at Sunset Memorial Park on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 3pm.
