Dow Freeman Rathbun, 90, of Twin Falls, died peacefully Saturday January 7th at his home surrounded by loving family.
Dow was born August 10, 1926 to Carl and Jessie Rathbun in Hulett, Wyoming before moving to Hansen Idaho where he was raised. Dow was a veteran of the United States Army's 3511i Infantry Regiment during WWII in the Pacific Theatre, the Philippine Islands, and Japan. Dow married Nadine Toner Edwards on February 18', 1972. He was a very devoted husband, step father, and grandfather.
Dow worked in road construction and went to work for the Twin Falls Highway District in April 1962 where he was a maintenance foreman until his retirement in July 1988. Dow and Nadine spent many years square dancing and spending their winters in Arizona. They were members of the Buttons and Bows square dance club in. Jerome and the Left Footers round dance club in Rupert, Idaho. They loved to fish, garden, play cards, and spend time in their motor home. Dow was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Vaughn and Art, stepson Kent Edwards, and grandson in law Patrick Kaminski.
Dow is survived by his wife Nadine, step daughters Barbara (Dave) Sheen of Fort Collins Colorado and Debra (Randy) Hudson of Twin Falls, Idaho. He is survived by 7 grandchildren, Brent Edwards, Jenifer Handren, Brian Edwards, Scott Prestidge, Kyle Prestidge, Stacy Kaminski, and Jeff Hudson, and 13 great grandchildren. Dow was a member of the Kimberly Christian Church.
There will be a viewing for family and friends on Friday, January 13th at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, from 5:00 to 7:00pm. A funeral will be held on Saturday, January 14 at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dan Daugherty presiding followed by a burial service at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
