Dave passed away November 19, 2016 at St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls, ID. He was born October 11, 1957 to Edwin Martin and Lettie Lowry Holmberg in Vancouver, WA. Dave spent his life as a construction superintendent/project manager throughout the United States. He built hotels and commercial buildings in WA and ID (including the Shilo Inn in Twin Falls), golf course communities in Arizona, homes in the Sun Valley area, restaurants, solar projects on the East Coast and software stores on the East Coast and throughout the Midwest. He married his high school sweetheart Debra Mumford, and their daughter Jasmine Adele was born to this union. Dave then met and married Barbara Gildroy Ahlf and later their son Ryan Martin was born. Dave’s marriage to Janie Weaver of many years included several moves and a variety of adventuresome businesses and projects. He shared the last nine years of his life with his fiancé Debi Klimes travelling together and living in Hailey and Twin Falls, ID, Gig Harbor, WA, the mid-Atlantic states, and New England. Besides travelling, much of their free time was spent camping and hiking in ID, particularly in the Pioneers and at Emma Creek in the Sawtooth National Forest. Always with guitars and cameras in tow, they also spent as much time as possible on the coasts of Washington, Oregon, New Jersey and Maine.
Dave was a talented musician, chef, artist, writer, poet, accomplished seaman and outdoorsman, and master designer, carpenter and gardener. Dave never met a stranger and made sure that he made friends with everyone he met. His sensitivity, good nature, sense of humor, and caring quickly put those he met at ease, with most of them becoming lifelong friends. He was a mentor to many.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sisters Margot Mask (Marvin) of Sun Lakes, Arizona, Nancy Holmberg of Tucson, Arizona, and Peggy McClellan (Darrell), of Vancouver, WA, and his children Jasmine Cook (Nathan) of Battleground, WA and Ryan (Priscilla) of Olympia, WA, and his fiancé, Debi, of Twin Falls. He is also survived by grandsons Noah and Isaiah Cook, and nieces Kristy, Kate, and Megan and their families.
A celebration of his life will be held in the Spring in Vancouver, WA.
