Vaughn Gene Eastman

Vaughn Gene Eastman, 96 of Twin Falls passed away at his home November 18, 2016 in Twin Falls Idaho. Vaughn was born September 23, 1920 in Malad City, Idaho the son of George W. and Sarah L. (Bryson) Eastman. He grew up raised on ranches and farms in northern Utah. He attended Davis High School in Kaysville Utah. On his 18th birthday, September 23, 1938, Vaughn married his high school sweetheart Fonda LaVon Eastman.   He was drafted into the United States Army, and served in the 25th Infantry Division, Luzon Campaign in P.T.O., WWII.  He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, he was considered a Sharpshooter, M-T Rifle Expert, expert M-1 Expert Carbine Leader, Patrol leader, B.A.R. rifleman, Platoon and Company Scout and Drill Instructor. Vaughn was recognized by the Utah State Legislature for service to his country. After his honorary discharge from the military, he worked as a carpenter on Grand Coulee Dam, in the Tacoma shipyards and Fort Lewis barracks. As a carpenter, contractor and homebuilder, Vaughn built homes and churches in Tacoma, Washington, Pullman, Washington and Juneau, Alaska.   Vaughn was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. He was sealed to his wife and his family in the Salt Lake City Utah LDS Temple on October 25, 1950.  Vaughn served in many capacities in the church including The Bishopric, Stake High Council, Scoutmaster, as Bishop, as a Temple Ordinance Worker in Manti and Mesa LDS temples and he and his wife served an LDS mission in Rapid City, South Dakota.   Vaughn was proud of his family. His loving wife and children meant everything to him. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was an example of industry and integrity and was always charitable to family and others.   When not working, Vaughn loved to be outdoors fishing, hunting, camping, involved in sports or service to the church.   Surviving Vaughn is his daughter, Donna Swallow of Twin Falls, Idaho: son, John V.(Jolayne) Eastman of Graham, Washington; son, Vaughn David (Teresa) Eastman of Soda Springs, Idaho; and son Larry George (Dawn) Eastman of Woodland Park, Colorado; one sister, Bessie E. Forbes of South Weber, Utah. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great-grandchildren.   Vaughn was preceded in death by his father, George W Eastman, mother, Sarah Lorinda Bryson Eastman; wife Fonda LaVon O’Brien Eastman; sister, Eula Unice Eastman; sister, Hattie Mae Eastman; brother, Elwin George Eastman; brother, John Edmund Eastman; brother Samuel Allen Eastman; sister Sarah Lorinda Eastman; brother Conray Bryson Eastman; brother, Roy “K” Eastman; and great-granddaughter, Brittany Jo Fuller.   Funeral Services for Vaughn will be held Friday, November 25, 2016 at 12:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints Eastland Ward building 847 Eastland Dr., Twin Falls. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services from 11:00 AM to noon at the church.   All services and arrangements are under the direction of Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls, Idaho.
