Mildred Stimpson

Mildred Tanner Stimpson, passed away on October 3, 2016 at the age of 100. She missed turning 101 by one month and two days.   She was born on November 5, 1915 in Paul, Idaho. Her parents were Owen Emery Tanner and LeVee Vilate Hjorth. Mildred was the seventh of nine brothers and sisters.   One December 8, 1935 she married Alvin Claude Stimpson in Burley, Idaho. They had two daughters and one son.   Mildred was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she served in various callings.   In 1960 she went to Cosmetology school, then working out of her home in a bedroom that had been remodeled into a shop. She did this for many years.   During her life Mildred was active in her community serving in the PTA, American Legion Auxiliary, Senior Center, filling in as clerk at the Paul city office and helping her husband Alvin as he served as Fire Chief of Paul until his death.   In 1973 Mildred became the first woman to be elected to the Paul City Council, serving for two terms.   She decided in 1993 to sell her home and move to Hansen, Idaho to live with her son, Galen and family.   Through her journey in this life, she experienced The Depression, six wars and camping in Western Montana when Mt. Saint Helens erupted, spreading ash where she was.   Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings, one grandson and three great grandchildren.   Mildred is survived by her children; Dorene (Reed) Watts of Layton, Utah; Galen (Sheryl) Stimpson of Hansen, Idaho; Connie (Paul) Judd of Preston, Idaho. Eleven grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren.   Funeral Services will be held held at the Murtaugh LDS Church Friday, October 7, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. with a viewing before at 10:00 A.M.   Those wishing to share their condolences may do so on Mildred’s memorial page at magicvalleyfuneralhome.com
