Verla Mae Tarter

October 28, 1924 — September 29, 2016

Verla Mae Tarter, 91 of Twin Falls passed away Friday, September 30,
2016 at Cedar Draw Assisted Living in Filer, Idaho.

She was born October 28, 1924 in Thornton, Idaho, one of five daughters of George and Olive Ritter.  Verla went to school in Emmett through the fifth grade then finished high school in Nampa.  Verla married Norman Tarter November 5, 1942.  Together,  they purchased a small Veltex Gas station at the bottom of historic Capitol Hill in Boise, Idaho. Then in 1952, Norm purchased the OK Rubber Welders Tire Store at 556  4th  Ave.  W. in  Twin  Falls, Idaho. This small two room tire store was expanded into three tire stores, two alignment and brake shops, a muffler facility,  a retread plant,  and a wholesale automotive services business that markets tires throughout Southern Idaho.

Verla enjoyed camping and fishing with Norm, their favorite being deep sea fishing in Guaymas, Mexico and Salmon fishing on the Campbell River in British Columbia with their sons and grandsons.  But she was best being a Mother and Grandmother.  She was a pillar in the family and a guiding force in moral values, and the value of personal responsibility and hard work.

After retirement, Norm and Verla enjoyed spending winters in Mexico and Arizona with their family and newly made friends. They found a new calling as missionaries for the Seventh Day Adventist Church. They worked to establish a Mexican orphanage, spent three very rewarding years in Zimbabwe, Africa with Pastor Ken Mittleider helping to establish mission hospitals and clinics, and a year in Russia as agricultural instructors.  Verla is survived by her sons, Ed (Norma) Tarter of Boise, Idaho; Jim (Judi) Tarter of Twin Falls, Idaho, and five Grandsons, Chris (Kerie) of Buhl; Eric (Lisa) of San Francisco; Justin (Erin) of Boise; Trevor (LeeAnn) of Twin Falls; Zach (Lisa) of St. Louis; and five Great Grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, husband Norm and son Tom.

A private family celebration of life service will be held at the Sunset Memorial Park and at a family gathering.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Parke Funeral Home of Twin Falls.

The family would like to thank everyone at Cedar Draw and Hospice Vision for
