Pat Ledbetter of Kimberly, Idaho, beloved wife of John and mother of Linda, passed away at the age of 84 on August 29, 2016. She died peacefully at home in the arms of her loved ones after a brave battle with cancer.
The youngest of four daughters, Pat was born in Morrilton, Arkansas, on August 3, 1932 to Albert and Kate Couch, and as a small child moved with her family to Little Rock. She graduated from Little Rock High School in 1950. She attended Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, and later worked as a secretary to the president of Arkansas Foundry Company, where her exceptional shorthand skills came in handy.
In 1955, she needed to rent a typewriter for a civil service job, and was swept off her feet by John, the young office supply salesman who assisted her. They married in 1957 in Little Rock. A few years later, their daughter Linda was born, and the family moved to Kimberly, Idaho, in 1966.
Pat worked for the Kimberly School District as an administrative assistant in the Special Education Department, and volunteered for the Kimberly Public Library. One of her proudest accomplishments in recent years was her leadership of the Branches Bible Study Group, which began in her home and later moved to the Ageless Senior Citizens Center when membership grew too large for her house to accommodate.
Pat was known for her gracious, charming disposition. Her laughter was infectious and her faith was strong. She enjoyed entertaining and made everyone feel at home in her presence. She loved cats, Christmas nutcrackers, antiques, and dark chocolate with sea salt. Shopping was her favorite hobby, and she and her daughter spent many happy weekends engaging in “retail therapy.” She was a member of the Crossroads United Methodist Church in Kimberly.
Pat was preceded in passing by her parents, Kate and Albert, and her dear sister, Eileen Whillock. She is survived by her husband, John, and her daughter, Linda, of Boise, Idaho. She also leaves behind her sisters, Elizabeth Sutton and Catherine Metzger, and countless friends who she loved like family.
Pat wanted a Celebration of Life instead of a funeral. It will be an open house-style gathering on Saturday, September 10 at the Ageless Senior Citizens Center, 310 Main Street in Kimberly, from 1:00- 4pm. Please dress casually and bring your favorite memories of Pat.
In lieu of flowers, please instead consider a donation to the Ageless Senior Citizens Center, which can be dropped off at their office or mailed to P.O. Box 403, Kimberly, ID 83341.
