Donald M. Ransom

January 17, 1928 — August 29, 2016

Donald M Ransom, 88, formerly of Filer, ID passed away August 29, 2016 in Twin Falls, ID.  He was born January 17, 1928 in Lohrville, IA to Harold Ransom and Violet Blanch Stout.  The family later moved to Rupert, ID where he attended school.  He was very active in athletics.  He lettered in all sports; something in which he was incredibly proud of.  He and his younger brother, Vince, were virtually inseparable growing up.  In fact, they both joined the U.S. Navy and even spent time stationed together in San Diego.  He served aboard the U.S.S. Minnesota during the Korean conflict.

On March 26, 1949, he married Doris R Anderson in San Diego, CA.  They were married 54 years before Doris’ passing February 6, 2004.  They settled down in Filer, where they raised their four children.  He was a long time employee of Asgrow.  His love for athletics lead to years of refereeing both high school football and basketball around the area.  He strived to “call it like he saw it”, even if it resulted in giving his own daughter, Dawna, a technical in a high school basketball game.  He enjoyed sports his whole life, watching many hours of numerous sporting events on TV.  He also enjoyed horses and had an extensive knowledge of American Quarter Horse bloodlines.  He loved playing cards, watching TV, fishing, metal detecting, and lottery tickets.  Many hours were spent enjoying the cabin they built near Soldier Mountain; feeding chipmunks, squirrels, and the hummingbirds.

He is survived by his daughter, Dianne (Fred) Churruca of Hagerman; daughter, Debbie (Kevin) Egan of Midland, TX; daughter, Dawna (Dean) Littler of Filer; son, Robert Ransom of Twin Falls; stepbrother, Jack (Margarita) Cullimore of Ilwaco, WA; sister-in-law, Lida Ransom of Ririe, ID; grandson, Bryan (Samantha) Evans of Boise; granddaughter, Darcie (Boone) Upton of Twin Falls; granddaughter, Darby Littler of Filer; grandson, Kaleb Furgen of Denver, CO; and great-grandson Pierce Evans of Boise.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Vince; and sister, Ramona.

A graveside service will be held at the MAR Cemetery in Rupert at 11:00 am Tuesday, September 27 under the direction of Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home.

To carry on his love for dogs, in lieu of cards and flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the local humane society or a charity of your choice.
