Shirley Sword

Shirley Miller Sword passed away on Sunday, July 31st at St. Luke’s Magic Valley Hospital in Twin Falls, Idaho.

 

Shirley was born on September 17th 1926 in Pikeville, Kentucky to James R. Miller and Mahala Coleman Miller. She was the tenth of 13 children. She married her husband Elmer Sword on August 17th, 1944. They were married 49 years until his death in 1994. They had three daughters and one son. Shirley worked at Pikeville Memorial Hospital in Kentucky during WWII, at Big Bear Grocery Store in Marietta, Ohio and Roger Brothers in Twin Falls, Idaho. Shirley and her husband and three daughters were baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1962. They lived in Ohio until 1968, then moved to Twin Falls with their youngest daughter and son.

 

Shirley was a fantastic cook and loved preparing special meals for friends and family. She was known for her kindness, generosity and hospitality. She loved to sew and garden. Shirley believed in the resurrection hope of everlasting life on earth with no more sickness and death, where she will be reunited with her friends and family which is promised at John 5:29, Revelation 21:3,4 and Job14:13-15.

 

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband and all but two siblings. She is survived by her daughters Janice (William) Piggott of Belpre, Ohio, Bernice (Paul) Lambert of Marietta, Ohio, Judy (Dennis) Gulick of Twin Falls and Brian (Valerie) Sword of Pueblo, Colorado, sister Gertrude Levak of Davin, West Virginia and brother Sherman Miller of San Antonio, Texas. She has 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

 

Private family services were held. Arrangements were under the caring direction of Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls.
