Marilyn Joy Dedman

June 11, 1941 — July 28, 2016

Marilyn Joy (Braga) Dedman passed away on Wed, July 27th at her home in Twin Falls. Marilyn was born to John Edward Braga and LaBerta (Brown) Braga on June 11, 1941 in Gooding, Idaho. She attended school in Gooding and was raised in a big Portuguese family. Her heritage was very important to her. In June of 1959, she married James Donald Mills in Twin Falls, Idaho. They moved to Mountain Home, Idaho where their first daughter Lisa was born. Later, upon moving to Fullerton, California, they were blessed with their second daughter Lori. A change in jobs brought them back to Gooding and their third daughter Lynn was born. Marilyn loved caring for her girls by making them dresses for school and fixing their hair. Later in Marilyn’s life, she grew to love hairdressing, skin care, and makeup. Once her girls were older she decided to obtain her Cosmetology license at Mr. Juan’s in Twin Falls. After graduation she opened up her own salon and employed several people, offering hair and nail services. In her “special” room she gave did hair, facials, taught makeup, and color draping. Marilyn loved color and always looked beautiful, even going to the grocery store!! She volunteered her time to local Theatre groups, and was hired to assist with many of the local pageant contestants. Her hobbies included knitting, she was an avid reader, enjoyed watching PBS, and loved to call and visit with her family members daily, especially her sister Carlene and cousin Cindy. She never met a stranger, and adopted many people into her extended family with lots of children referring to her as “Grandma”. But her crowning glory was always her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In her heart, the greatest love of her life was the Lord Jesus Christ.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, John and LaBerta Braga, her first husband Jim Mills, second huband EL Checketts, and last husband Dean Dedman. She is survived by her sister Carlene Humphreys and cousin Cynthia Olson of Twin Falls. Daughters Lisa Brander, Lori (Roger) Hinton, and Lynn (Brian) Rice of Twin Falls. Also niece Teri Strunk, grandchildren Matthew (Summer) Brander, Andrew (Tianna) Brander, Drew Huft, Sarah (Jonathan) Jolley, and Dara (Rick) Maltos, and great-grandchildren Bradley, Riley, Destiny Lynn, Aubrey, Alyssa, McKensi, Alona, Maddison, and Landon. Also surviving are many cousins from the Braga and Brown families. A special thanks to Dr Laura Fall, who gave her many years of love and medical care. Mom always said she was her 4th daughter.

“Life is a song—sing it. Life is a game—play it. Life is a challenge—meet it. Life is a dream—realize it. Life is a sacrifice—offer it. Life is love—enjoy and share it with others.”
