Karen Ruth Burnett

Formerly from Norfolk, NY, Karen Ruth Burnett passed away on June 16, 2016 in Twin Falls, ID. Karen was born in the Town of Stockholm, NY on Oct. 17, 1941 to Raymond J. and Marjorie L. Brewer Porter. Karen attended District School No. 3 in Norfolk and graduated from Norwood-Norfolk Central School as Salutatorian from the class of 1958. After graduation Karen first worked for the Drew Insurance Agency in Norwood, NY.

On Oct. 26, 1963, Karen married Theodore J. “Ted” Burnett at the Norwood Methodist Church with Rev. Frank Smith officiating. Karen was an active member of the Norfolk Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Karen is survived by her beloved husband and son Shawn J. Burnett, currently residing in Twin Falls, ID and grandson, Shawn Jr., granddaughter, Samantha and great-grandchild from Potsdam, NY. Karen is also survived by four sisters: Judy (John) Plonka, of Colton, NY and Diane (Dale) LaShomb, Sharon (Norman) LaShomb, Debra (Kester) Wells all from Norfolk, NY. Karen was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Marjorie Brewer Porter and by an infant sister, Marjorie G. Porter. She fought a courageous battle with cancer at home under the loving and devoted care of her husband of 53 years.

A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Green’s Cemetery in Hermon, NY.
