Robert (Bob) H. Lawrason of Twin Falls passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at the age of 91, surrounded by family members at his daughter's home.
He was the third child born to Harry B. and Juanita (Caryl) Lawrason on June 14, 1924, in Glendale, CA. Bob was born on his sister Dorthea's birthday. Aunt Dot believed the he was her birthday present and a joke developed into a lifelong bonding of having two mothers. He loved being spoiled by both of them. He was raised in a Christian family and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age.
Bob was an Eagle Scout in Troop #105 of the Boy Scouts of America. He was active in ROTC, theater, and band at Benjamin Franklin High School. He developed many close, lifelong friends through Christian Endeavors. Bob obtained the love of flying as a child and was able to pursue his passion in the U.S. Army Air Corp. After the war ended, Bob returned home and married Barbara B. Kestenholz on May 9, 1946, in Eagle Rock, California. They had two children, Stephen and Kathaleen. They were together for 58 years until Barbara's passing in 2004. Also in 1946, Bob joined the Los Angeles Fire Department serving in numerous divisions. His first assignment was with an engine company in the industrial district of Los Angeles. He next served on the rescue ambulance, and eventually worked his way to his favorite, Mountain Patrol; he retired in 1966.
Bob "discovered" Idaho through a hunting buddy, Cecil A. "Sarge" Vernon. He immediately fell in love with the great hunting and fishing that Idaho had to offer. In 1959, Bob and Barbara purchased property in Hagerman Valley, Idaho. They decided to develop a cow/calf operation specializing in Black Angus. From 1959 until his retirement in 1966, the family would commute between CA and ID. Bob and Barbara continued in the ranching business until his health broke from a fire department-related injury. They then went into the real estate business opening Lawrason Realty. They sold that business and moved to Twin Falls in 1998. Bob enjoyed helping others find the solution to their real estate needs. He made many friends in both the Northside and Twin Falls Boards of Realtors.
Bob was a lover of people, always enjoying sharing stories and adventures. He was an active member of the American Legion, Gideons, Hagerman Lions, and both Hagerman Valley and Twin Falls Chambers of Commerce. He participated in the Magic Valley Toastmasters. Bob also served in the Idaho Hunters Safety program as an Educator for 10 years.
Above all else, Bob believed in service to God and his church. He held numerous positions in the different churches throughout his life. While in Twin Falls, Bob served as a Commander in Royal Rangers and a teacher in the Life Development program at Amazing Grace Fellowship.
Bob is survived by his beloved sister, Dorthea (Dottie) Avery of Manteca, CA, son Stephen Lawrason of Twin Falls, daughter Kathaleen Lawrason Minard of Twin Falls, and grandchildren Gregory Minard, Boise, ID, Juanita Minard (Fernando Sanchez), Boise, ID, Carrie Ann (Mario) Belem, Jerome, ID, and Daniel Lawrason, Hollywood, CA, and
numerous nieces and nephews. He had the honor of being Great-Grandpa to seven beautiful "adopted" great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Amazing Grace Fellowship (1061 Eastland Drive North, Twin Falls, ID) on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be held privately at a later date under the direction of Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gideons, Hospice Visions, or the charity of your choice.
The family would also like to express their appreciation for the staff and volunteers of Hospice Vision for their loving and professional care of both Bob and Barbara.
