Michael Leroy Stroebel

August 15, 1948 — April 4, 2016

Mike Stroebel, 67, of Twin Falls passed away peacefully April 4 after a brave battle with cancer at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his family and dogs.

Mike was born August 15, 1948 in Mount Vernon, Washington to Joyce and Ted Stroebel. The family moved to Lompoc, California where he spent his childhood. In 1970 Mike graduated from the College of Idaho and married his lifelong best friend Rosie Westendorf.  The couple recently celebrated 45 years of marriage.

Mike worked as a chemist for Amalgamated Sugar for 38 years.  He treated his co-workers with respect and loyalty. The highlight of Mike's life were his three children, Rebecca, Janie and Robbie.  He doted on their every activity and interest. They spent a lot of time camping, watching the stars and meteor showers, attending various dance/voice recitals and performing science experiments. He  volunteered with the Boy Scouts for many years. A special event with the scouts included a canoe trip on Lake Yellowstone.

Retirement allowed Mike a chance to pursue his many interests, white water trips, volunteering with prison ministries, biking, kayaking and participating in a building trip in Cuba.  Mike and Rosie enjoyed each other's company, CSI basketball games, exercising together and walking the dogs.  They took several train trips, visited Hawaii a couple times and traveled to Costa Rica.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife Rosie, daughter Becca (Scott) Kabasa, daughter Janie, son Rob, grandsons Peter and Teddy Kabasa, sister Marcia (Paul) Ashley and his dogs Zoey and Gavin. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Nancy Stroebel.  The family would like to thank the staff of St Luke's Hospital in Boise and Dr. Benjamin Karsten for their care and concern.

A celebration of Mike's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16 at Parke's Funeral Home on Kimberly Road in Twin Falls. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Twin Falls Animal Shelter 420 Victory Ave. Twin Falls, Idaho 83301, Methodist Camp Sawtooth www.gocamping.org or a charity of your choice.
