Marjorie May Benedict

May 29, 1921 — March 17, 2016

Marjorie May Lewis Benedict, age 94 of Twin Falls, Idaho passed away at Bridgeview Estates in Twin Falls on March 17, 2016 from pancreatic cancer, surrounded by her family and friends.

Marjorie was born in Twin Falls on May 29, 1921 to Charles Leslie and May Eunice (Boone) Lewis. Marjorie’s mother died when she was six months old and her father was remarried to Nora E Higgins Lewis when she was two years old.

She grew up and attended schools in Twin Falls, graduating from Twin Falls High School class of 1939 and then attended Beauty School.

Marjorie married the boy next door, H. Wilferd Benedict on October 15, 1940. To this union were born three children Charlene, David and Sondra.

During her life Marjorie was an avid reader and pinochle player. She also enjoyed camping, cooking, canning and needlework – and her talents extended to sewing formals, wedding dresses, clothes for kids and babies. She was a strong advocate for reading and impressed that value on her grandchildren.

She shared her richness for caring by being a volunteer to Bickle PTA, the school hot lunch program, as a Cub Scout Leader and as a Red Cross Donor. She worked tirelessly for Easter Seal from 1960 – 1988. First as a volunteer and later as an employee assisting in therapies, in bookkeeping, and as a receptionist. She was an active volunteer for the Twin Falls Senior Center for many years. She served on Twin Falls County Election Board and was a member of the Primrose Rebekah Lodge since 1945. Marjorie attended the Twin Falls Presbyterian Church.

She was a wonderful daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.  She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving Marjorie are her son David L (Karen) of Filer, Idaho; daughter Sondra (Jim) Ingalls of Twin Falls, Idaho; son-in-law, Denis (Nita) Vollmer of Filer, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Martha Vollmer Fleenor, Michael (Jodi) Vollmer, Todd (Nancy) Vollmer, Mark Benedict, Angie (John) Hanson, Amy (Brian) Stevens, Jana (Michael) Marchand, 19 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and by her longtime friend Gladys Gillespie.
