Metress Marybelle Odom

November 25, 1923 — March 1, 2016

Metress M. (Oliver) Odom, “Mickey”, formally of Wendell, Idaho, passed away after a brief illness in Vacaville, California.  Born in Marshall, Arkansas, on November 25, 1923, she was the oldest child of Henry and Gus Oliver.

The family moved to California in the 1940’s where her father worked on the Shasta Dam.

Mickey later worked for Boeing Aircraft Manufacturing in Renton, Washington as well as McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Manufacturing in Long Beach, California for a combined 10 years.

In 1960, she moved to San Pablo, CA where she met and married her soulmate, Claude K. Odom.  They raised four children together.  They moved to Filer, Idaho in 1967, later moving to Wendell, Idaho making it their permanent home.  As Claude spent the week traveling for work, Mickey kept busy at home taking care of the farm.  She planted vegetable gardens, raised chickens, cows, pigs and horses.

Mickey and Claude took annual fishing trips to Chinook, WA.  She loved to hook and “catch” the big sturgeon in the Columbia River.  While on their 6 week trip, they were visited by numerous family members and friends.  She opened her camp up to all and even invited them out for a fishing excursion but her seat on the boat was always reserved for her; she loved fishing so much.

Mickey lived life to the fullest.  She loved to plant and grow things especially roses, she couldn’t wait to see them bloom.  She baked a mean apple pie and loved playing cards.  She loved to pass the time reading.  Her favorite author was Louis L’amour.  She loved his western novels and cherished her entire collection.  She was considered the family historian, knowing where everyone was born and the who of who’s in the family.  Nothing seemed to slow her down and she always pushed herself to the limit.  At 92, hard to tell, she kept busy up to the last moment even if it was just doing house work.

Mickey is survived by her children, Larry (Susan) Ainsworth of Buhl, ID; Wanda Beddo of Vacaville, CA; Jim Ainsworth of Vancouver, WA; brother Gene (Judy) Oliver of Meridian, ID; sister-in-law Margie Oliver of Buhl, ID; eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son Bill Odom.  Also preceded her in death were; brother, Bill and wife Mae Oliver; brother, Don Oliver as well as daughters-in-law Peggy Ainsworth, Mona Ainsworth and son-in-law Warren Beddo.
