Joseph Edward Moes

We would like to celebrate the life of Joe Moes.   Joe was born in Galena, Illinois to parents Arnie and Julia Moes (Lawlor).  He grew up in Galena with his brothers Gus and Jack.  He attended St Michael's school and the Galena High School where he played on a winning football team.  He spent many hours working at his family's pharmacy and ice cream parlor located in downtown Galena (Moes' Drugstore).

He married Sibby (Sylvia Sproule) daughter of Kenny and Vesta Sproule.  Joe and Sibby raised four children:  Bonnie (Neal), Julie (Jack), Andy (Cindy), and Tony (Katy).  As a father, he was always patient, kind, and a whole lot of fun.  He would load up the station wagon   with a group of neighborhood kids, take them to the swimming pool, and then upon return, play a fierce game of kick-the-can.  Often neighborhood kids would come to the back door to see if Joe was coming out to play.

Throughout his life, he was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox.  The last Bears game that he was able to watch was this season when the Bears beat the Packers.  If you are a Bears fan, you know what that means.  His other interests were doing crosswords, playing euchre, coaching youth baseball, and acting with a few small parts in plays performed at Turner Hall in Galena.

After many years of working at the Dubuque Pack in Dubuque, Iowa, he and his family settled in Twin Falls, Idaho.  He worked for the Wills' family, the Twin Falls School District, and the True Value Hardware Store.  He just had to keep active and didn't retire until his mid seventies.

While living in Idaho, he became a grandfather to Jacob (Amy), John Clark, Gus, Patrick, Josie, and Sylvia.  His grandchildren absolutely adored him.  He knew how to talk and tease them at any age, and always made each one feel special.

Joe recently passed away at his Twin Falls home.  His wife, Sibby, was a wonderful caretaker and made sure he was able remain home throughout his illness.  For this, his children are eternally grateful.

Joe was a man who asked for very little but gave so much to those he came in contact with.  He will be greatly missed, and our lives will never be quite the same.

We would like to give thanks to:  Gene and Robin, Kelly, Jerry and Linda, Colleen (for Digger), Brian, George, Georgia, Sav-Mor-Drug, Denise and Dean Siren, Gary, Raylene, the Lopez family, and any neighbor or friend who came to the rescue when Sibby and Joe needed help.  We would like to give a special thanks to Carl and the Visions' Hospice of Twin Falls for their kindness and quality care they gave to our dad, husband, and grandfather.  Finally, a great big thanks to the Edith (Punkin') Robertson family for all of their support over the years and fun times spent in their homes and Idaho mountain ranch near Smiley Creek.

If you wish to do something special for Joe, a donation to your favorite animal shelter would be exactly what he would want.
