George F. Schmidt, 89, of Twin Falls, passed away January 3, 2016 at his home in Twin Falls.
He was born on November 14, 1926 in St Paul MN to Verna M. (Cope) Schmidt and George J. Schmidt. He and his family moved to Galva, IA in 1931. After Graduating from high school in 1945, he was inducted into the US Army, serving in World War II. He had attained the rank of corporal at the time of his honorable discharge.
George received his degree in Optical Engineering and Business Management. He worked in Burleigh Brooks as a design engineer for photographic equipment in New York City. While in New York he joined the Masonic Lodge on May 22, 1951. In 1958, he moved to Chicago to work for Burleigh Brooks Mid Western Division. In 1965, moved to Twin Falls, ID. where he worked as a executive manager of Herrett’s Stocks Inc. until he retired in November 1988.
In his retirement he became an accomplished wood carver attaining the rank of master wood carver. He received numerous awards for his wood carvings. George enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending time with his numerous friends. He was also a member of the VFW.
Surviving are his nephew—Steve (Rose) Loutsch of Remsen, Iowa, niece—Jane (Thomas) Anderson of Harrisburg, South Dakota, along with numerous extended family and friends, along with his beloved companion Pepper. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister—Dorothy and brother in law Art Loutsch.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Parke’s Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Rd., Twin Falls.
