Carl Ezra Fillmore passed away peacefully September 15, 2015, surrounded by friends and family. Carl fought a courageous battle, and all who knew him marveled at his will to remain independent throughout a long and relentless illness. Carl was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, July 24, 1933 to Orval and Berniece Fillmore. He attended school in Twin Falls, and then headed to Nevada with his lifelong friend Ray Williams to become a cowboy. In 1955, he married Ruth Arlene Reed, and together they had two daughters, Karla and Kelli. When Karla was just six months old, Carl was drafted into the United States Army, where he served in Germany as an Infantry Gunner. When Carl returned from serving his country, he was given the opportunity to learn the dry cleaning trade. Eventually he bought the business and operated two One Hour Martinizing plants in Twin Falls for many years. Carl took great pride in his many wonderful and loyal employees. In 1986, Carl married Angelita Jacobsen. After he retired from the dry cleaning business, he and Angie spent years enjoying the Idaho outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. Carl was also an avid gardener, growing vegetables, iris, roses, sunflowers, and his gorgeous zinnias. Carl was a renowned horseman and trail rider. He trained Tennessee Walking Horses for the U.S. Forest Service, but mostly enjoyed helping his friends and training and riding for fun with them. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Clark, and his wife Angie. He is survived by his daughters Karla Hill-Reyna, Kelli Fulton, son-in-law Jerry, sister Clara Funke and brother-in-law Dave Funke, stepdaughter Tami Johnston and her husband Mark, stepson Tim Jacobsen and stepdaughter Julie Riehl and their families, special friends Vicci and Jim Archer, and grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Dad would want us to mention his many beloved friends from St. Luke's hospice, especially Travis, and the staff at Syringa Place. He also left behind many, many friends he talked of often. And finally, he would insist: "I'm a horseman, not a cowboy." Ride off into the beautiful beckoning sunset, Dad. We love you. Graveside services will take place Friday, September 18, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Rock Creek Cemetery, Hansen, Idaho. All services and arrangements are under the direction of Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls, Idaho.
