Henry N. Dunthorn 1926 - 2015 Henry N. Dunthorn, 89 of Eden, Idaho passed away July 26, 2015 at his home after a long illness. Henry was born April 18, 1926 in Edmonton Alberta Canada, the son of Emerson and Esther White Dunthorn. Henry grew up and attended schools in the Eden, Idaho area however in 1941 when World War II began, he left the 10th grade to enlist in the U.S. Army. He fought in the war as a foot soldier and rifleman, and during his service was injured by a bomb blowing up and causing him a concussion. Upon his return to service, he was moved to a new position as a Military Policeman, was issued the rare gift of a military police dog and was given the responsibility of patrolling Paris which is where he met his future wife, Simone Eppelle`. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge June 29, 1946, he went to work for his uncle on a dairy farm in New York State where he remained and prepared to meet Simone upon her arrival in New York City. On April 26, 1947, Henry and Simone were married in New York City and for their honeymoon they went to a circus in Madison Square Garden. Before Simone traveled to the United States, she required Henry to purchase a round-trip airfare in case she decided she did not want to stay. However she was deeply in love with Henry and to this union were born five children, Jacqueline, Daniel, Alvin, JanClaude and Denise. After their honeymoon, Henry and Simone drove home to Idaho in an old jalopy he purchased. At one particular juncture, they were headed up a very steep hill and they were being followed by a tour bus. Henry kept waiting for the bus to pass, but later on when they stopped, he asked the bus driver why he wouldn't pass them. The bus driver said he was concerned that he may have to give them a push to get them up the hill. Henry began life as a new husband working on farming, and then went on to work in the carpentry and construction business. Henry was a very hard worker and held jobs with various farmers in the Eden and Hazelton areas, such as the Lavences, Ted Zahn and Ted Andrews. He then went to work for IdaPride and OreIda potato factories, and also held a job with the lumber yard in Jerome, ID. Because of his skills, Henry went to work on Lower Granite Dam, near Walla Walla, Washington, on the lower Salmon River. From there the family resided in Issaquah, Lewiston, and traveled back and forth between California and Washington. Henry continued construction and worked for the Power Company in the Rock Creek, Wyoming area and the family resided there for 14 years until 1981 when they returned to Eden, Idaho. Upon his return to Eden, Henry worked with his father farming and tending sheep, and also doing odd jobs until he was able to draw Social Security. He worked part-time for the Johnsons, and also as a security guard for five years for Spears in Jerome. When not at work, Henry enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, playing cards and traveling to Jackpot, Nevada to enjoy the occasional show. During his time in the military, he met many USO celebrities, some of whom named here were, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Red Skelton, Lucille Ball, and he also met Jim Neighbors, but he met Jim in Jackpot. Jerry Spence, the attorney would often come to visit him in Eden, but they would have to keep it on the QT as Jerry was very well known. In his retirement, Henry loved to feed the doves, squirrels, finches and hummingbirds that hung around his property. As a young man, Henry developed lifelong friendships and he would talk about how he and his friends would take the train from Eden to Rupert, to Shoshone, ID and how they loved to take his old jalopy and run around the Valley. Some of his lifelong friendships include Bob & Vienna Spencer, Gaye and Linda Henry, and his best friend, Jack Faulk, with whom he grew up. To this day Jack and he loved to sit around and tell stories of the good old days and other antics when they were boys. Henry was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving Henry, are his children, Jacqueline Fountain of Eden, Idaho; Daniel Dunthorn of Boise; Alvin Dunthorn of Manning, Oregon; Jan-Claude Dunthorn of Wyoming and Denise (Joey) Dolence of Rock Springs, Wyoming; one brother, Lawrence Dunthorn of Hazelton, Idaho; sisters, Jessica Conway of Confluence, Pennsylvania; Naomi Roberts of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Dee Stevenson of Boise, Idaho; 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving, is his brother-in-law, Henrye` (Yvette) Epelle` of France, brother-in-law, Claude (Simone) Laribi of France, and sister-in-law Margaret (Claude) Pinneberg and their son, his nephew Patrick Pinneberg of France. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Simone in 2014, and one sister Eleanor Chase. Visitation for Henry will be held Friday, July 31, 2015 from 5 to 7:00 PM at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home 2551 Kimberly Rd., Twin Falls, ID. Funeral services will be held, Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 3 PM at the funeral home, with military rites and interment being held following services at Hazelton Cemetery, Hazelton Idaho. The family wishes to thank the Portneuf Medical Ctr., Dr. Charles Claire, and Dr. Blair Johnson, The team of Idaho Home Health And Hospice, namely Theresa, Robert, the three Leslie's, and Melody for all the caring attention, love and concern that was poured out on our family during dad's illness.
