Vernon ("Vern") C. Robertson, 93, died on May 28, 2015 at a hospital in Twin Falls, Idaho after a long illness. Vernon was born on February 15, 1922 in Marmaduke, Arkansas to Claud and Florence Robertson. He attended schools in Idaho, graduating from Glenns Ferry High School in 1941. Vernon married his high school sweetheart, Eva Rose Carlton, on June 27, 1943 before entering service in the U.S. Navy in 1944 in Bremerton, Washington. Seaman First Class Robertson earned the American Area Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal before he was honorably discharged in March 1946. Vernon began work with the Union Pacific Railroad in Glenns Ferry as a teenager. After WWII, he returned to Union Pacific working in Glenns Ferry, Idaho; Nyssa, Oregon; Boise, Pocatello, and Twin Falls, Idaho. Vernon worked in various positions including calling crews as a teenager, to Yard Clerk, Cashier, Ticket Agent and Traffic Agent. He retired in Twin Falls after a 41-year career with Union Pacific. After retirement, he was actively involved in Operation Lifesaver teaching children about railroad safety at local schools, the County Fair and other venues. Vernon was also actively involved in the American Legion where he volunteered his services at military funerals and placed flags at cemeteries on national holidays. He was a Charter Member of the Twin Falls Monarch Lions Club where he volunteered many years as a courier for the Lions Eye Bank receiving the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for his service. Vernon was also a Life Member of the NRA, who enjoyed hunting and marksmanship, competing in many tournaments in the area. He was an avid fisherman, fishing throughout Idaho and the Northwest. In recent years he was an active member of various bowling leagues in Twin Falls where he enjoyed the sport and camaraderie of his many friends. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, his parents, and his beloved wife Eva. He will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind - daughter Carol and husband Ben Reese; grandson Benjamin Reese; granddaughter Emily Reese; daughter Bernice and husband Derek Myles; grandson Nick Myles and wife Karina; granddaughter Sheena Pape; and his many friends who were very dear to him throughout his life. A visitation and viewing will be held at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home in Twin Falls on June 1, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. A memorial service and interment will be at Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry on June 2, 2015 at 11 a.m. Donations in Vernon's memory may be made to the Lions Eye Bank c/o Parke's Funeral Home 2551 Kimberly Rd.
