Mary Ann Obenchain passed away peacefully from this life on April 23, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She was 83 years of age. Mary Ann was born to Remi Charles Mattan and Theresa Jane (Burget) Mattan on November 8, 1931 in Delia Kansas. She was the second child born to that marriage. Mary attended a Catholic school in Dawson, Nebraska through the sixth grade and public school, 7th grade through her high school years, also in Dawson, Nebraska. She then entered nurses training in the Sabetha Hospital in Sabetha, Kansas. In 1954, Mary came to Twin Falls to visit a girlfriend. She liked the area so much she decided to stay. She was first employed by C.C. Anderson department store, then by Roper's as a ladies ready-to-wear buyer and department manager. She remained at Roper's until 1970. Mary and Donald Rush were married in 1956 and later divorced. She married Dan Obenchain in 1966 in Elko, Nevada and that marriage was later blessed by the Catholic Church in 1996. An avid golfer, Mary was the Blue Lakes Country Club Women's Golf Champion in 1978. She also served as the Ladies Golf Association President in 1984. She and her husband Dan were named Goodwill Ambassadors for Blue Lakes Country Club in 2002. Mary served in many different capacities for various community organizations such as the YWCA membership drives, etc. She was also involved in political activities such as President of the Twin Falls Republican Women's Association in 1993. In addition, Mary was a sports enthusiast of many kinds, horseback riding & waterskiing among them. Surviving Mary is her husband of 48 years, Dan Obenchain. She is also survived by four stepchildren, Kathleen Ann (Hal) Fobes of Littleton, Colorado; Thomas R. Obenchain of Boise; Tim ( Shawna) Obenchain of Twin Falls, Idaho and Terry (Jessica) Obenchain, of Hansen, ID. Also surviving are her 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, a half-brother, Garland "Dutch" Morris of Clinton, Missouri. Mary was preceded in death by her mother Theresa Cornwell and stepfather Norman Cornwell, her brother August Mattan, her father Remi Mattan and half-brother, Harlan Morris. A memorial mass will be held Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 11 AM at St. Edward's the Confessor Catholic Church 161 6th Ave E, Twin Falls, Idaho with Father Michael St. Marie officiating. Inurnment will be held following services at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Twin Falls, Idaho. All services and arrangements are under the direction of Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls, ID. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the St. Edwards the Confessor Catholic Church building fund 212 7th Avenue East, Twin Falls, Idaho 83301.
