John L. Badger

April 21, 1916 — April 11, 2015

John L. "Jack" Badger Twin Falls John L. "Jack" Badger passed peacefully from this life in the early hours of April 11, 2015, just 10 days short of his 99th birthday. Born in a log cabin in Standrod, Idaho to Olive Lavina Barnes and LeRoy Badger, on April 21, 1916, Jack was the sixth of eight children. He spent his childhood in Heyburn and Clear Creek Idaho, and then moved with family to Acequia where he graduated from Acequia High School. After high school he joined the Civil Conservation Corps and spent his service at a camp in Northern Idaho, where he participated in forestry projects, including fighting fires. On May 10, 1941, he married Donna Palmer and they were just starting their life together and had built a home in Rupert when Jack was called to serve in the United States Army. He served in the 1263rd Engineer Combat Battalion in Europe during World War II and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. After the war, Jack and his brother Forrest built custom homes and had a building supply business for many years. When his brother retired, Jack and Donna continued their business as Badger Paint and Hardware until their retirement. Jack was a skilled woodworker who produced many beautiful pieces of furniture, cabinetry and lathe work. He continued to build wooden toys and produced intricate scroll saw pictures almost until his last day. He enjoyed gardening and hunting, and spent many summer afternoons fishing the "holes" below the old radial gates at Minidoka Dam. Jack and Donna raised their family of 4 children, Marcia, Leon, David and Holly, at their home on 5 acres north of Rupert. Their marriage was solemnized and the family was sealed together in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on March 23, 1961. Jack remained a faithful member of the church throughout his life. In 1991, Donna passed away and later that year Jack met Vera Moon Schiers who he married in the Boise LDS Temple on October 11, 1991. Together they shared 23 happy years, dividing their time between their homes in Idaho and their winter home in Beaver Dam, Arizona. They enjoyed their hobbies and spending time with their families and friends. Jack had the great fortune of remaining active and independent until the end. Who could ask for more than that? Jack is survived by his wife, Vera; daughter Marcia (Delano) Thomas, Provo, Utah; a son David (Kristie) Badger, Rupert, Idaho; stepsons Michael (Linda) Schiers, Burley, Idaho; and Larry (Cathy) Schiers, Hailey, Idaho; and 23 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Donna; a son Leon (Shari) Badger Logan, Utah; a daughter Holly (Esteban) Hernandez, Burley, Idaho; a grandson Benjamin, a granddaughter, Andrea, and a great granddaughter Szaelthia, and his siblings, Cecil, Lloyd, Forrest, Bernice, Afton, Lester, and Leone.
