Mary M. Neumann

September 28, 1919 — March 6, 2015

Mary Marie ("Mimi") Neumann, 95, passed away on March 6, 2015, after living a long, loving, fulfilling life. Marie was born September 28, 1919 in Mountain Grove, Missouri to Otis and Pearl Helsley. She lost her mother at a young age and her father remarried Hazel Helsley and Marie was graced with step-brothers and step-sisters that she loved very much. Marie graduated from Castleford High School where she played on the basketball team with Helen Neumann Spradling. Helen introduced her to her husband Paul Neumann and they married after graduating from high school. After graduation Marie and Paul moved to Buhl, Idaho where their son Richard was born. Their daughter, Karen was born during World War II in Rio Tinto, Nevada, where Paul worked in the mine for the war effort. The couple eventually moved to Monte Vista, Colorado. Marie worked various jobs, but her favorite was secretary to the County's judge who along with his wife became Paul and Marie's life-long friends. While residing in Monte Vista, Paul and Marie purchased a small cabin at Riverside, Colorado. Eventually, Marie turned this small cabin into a beautiful home where she entertained family and friends at "the River." She developed long lasting friendships with the community of people at Riverside, Colorado at has asked that her remains be interred there. Marie enjoyed cooking, entertaining and games. Her four granddaughters spent many summers at the River learning card games, learning to cook and enjoying each other's company and spending time with Marie. Marie was part of a bridge game for most of her life, and played bridge at least once a week at the River. Upon retirement, Paul and Marie moved back to Twin Falls, Idaho and spent their summers in Phoenix and the rest of the year in Idaho. They travelled on business to Peru, and took many trips on various cruises to the Bahamas and Alaska. One of their favorite trips was to Ireland where Marie kissed the Blarney stone. In Twin Falls, Marie entertained often and belonged to at least two bridge clubs. She loved games; the couple also participated in a Friday Night dinner club with 8 to 10 other couples meeting at each other's homes for appetizers and then going to dinner at a restaurant of the host's choice. There remain 3 members of this club. Marie made friends wherever she went and was loved by all. She lost her high school sweetheart just shy of their 60 year anniversary. Her daughter Karen followed Paul in death 4 months later. Marie lived a very independent life in Twin Falls until last year. She loved entertaining and cooking for friends and family, playing bridge with two groups and continued to have dinner with her Friday Night Group and solved the crossword puzzle and Word Jumble every morning in the newspaper. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Marie's life at the Historic Ballroom in Twin Falls Idaho on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 3 p.m. In honor of her Friday Night Group, we will be serving appetizers and cocktails.
