Norma Virginia Palmer Johnson

March 12, 1921 — October 10, 2014

Norma Virginia Palmer Johnson March 12, 1921 - October 10, 2014 Jerome - Norma went home to her Heavenly Father October 10, 2014, at the age of 93. Norma was born March 12, 1921, in Hemet, California, the youngest child of Claude Wilson and Anna Mae Palmer. In 1925, when Norma was just 4 year old, there was a hurricane in Miami, Florida which wiped it off the map. Since her father was in the construction trade, the family moved there while he helped rebuild the city. She enjoyed a happy childhood and recalled riding the scooter her big brother built for her during that time. From Florida the family moved back to San Diego where Norma attended Point Loma High, then to La Jolla where she graduated from La Jolla High School. She loved to swim, play tennis, was an expert cook, exacting seamstress and was active in the Latin club. While in school Norma cultivated many friendships which lasted her whole life. And, much to her dismay, she outlived them all. She married Henry Earl Johnson in La Jolla, on June 13, 1943. Two daughters were born to Norma and Hank, Claudia and Patty. Together they had many adventures, motoring to, vacationing and living in several states. In addition to raising their daughters, Norma earned a degree from the, then, newly established Grossmont Community College in La Mesa, California and worked for many years in the theater department. She loved her work and left it, reluctantly, retiring to Jerome, Idaho in 1985 with her husband, where they lived for many years. Norma loved to travel, venturing to Europe and many times to Alaska. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister (Arlene) and brother (George). She is survived by her daughters Claudia (Larry) Surratt of Jerome; Patricia (Richard) Seifert of Fairbanks, Alaska; grandchildren, Brandon Seifert of Portland, Oregon; Sarah Seifert, currently of Japan; Kenneth (Sarah) Surratt, with great-grandchildren, Clinton Kulpinski, Michael and Ella Surratt all of Appomattox, Virginia. Norma fiercely loved us all, was wonderfully loved and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Jerome Bible Baptist Church's missionary fund. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls.
