Sandy Howard Sims

August 11, 1941 — October 7, 2014

SANDY HOWARD SIMS August 11, 1941-October 7, 2014 Sandy was a true renaissance man - a rancher, a miner, a land developer, a builder of islands in Prudhoe Bay and a fishing guide both in Alaska and on his beloved Salmon River in his jetboat. Sandy was known far and wide for his incredibly quick and rich sense of humor, his astute business mind, his generosity, and his amazing ability to spot an elk, a deer, or an arrowhead a mile away. Sandy never met a stranger and, with his stories, could fill the air with laughter. After graduating from Salmon High School, Sandy set off to play football at the University of Montana in Missoula for a year before returning home to the ranch. He married Sharron Pern the mother of his four children: Patti (Bill) Burke, Steve, Eric, and Jani (Scott) Ricks as well as seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Fifteen years ago Sandy and his wife Barbara moved to his beloved Mores Creek Ranch in Boise, Idaho. He partnered with longtime friends Horace Chapman, and Barry and Craig Marcus. Together they built Osprey and Napias subdivisions after which they could sit back on the deck of their home sharing a glass of good wine with family and friends. On May 1, 2014, he was diagnosed with lung cancer and after five months of a courageous battle, died early on October 7 in the arms of his beloved wife. His family is deeply thankful for the excellent care, friendship and support of Dr. Rafael Arteta-Bulos and the nurses at MSTI and to Dr. John Gamboa and staff at the Cancer Center of Idaho. Sandy's attitude toward life was "It is what it is". He was cremated and, at his request, there will be no service
