Francis Eugene Horejs Francis E. (Bud) was born on April 14, 1923, the eldest son of Frank and Patronella (Nellie) Horejs. Bud grew up in the Buhl area and became a strong young man. He served his country by enlisting in the Army Air corp. on Jan. 25, 1944, during WWII. He was part of the reinvasion of the island of Leyte, Philippines. He was wounded and evacuated to Hawaii. He received the Purple Heart medal for his sacrifice. After returning home he secured work with the Twin Falls Fire Department in 1947. He served in various leadership roles while there and retired at age 57 as the Assistant Fire Chief. While in fire services he taught at the national fire schools in California and Washington DC. He made many friends while employed with the fire department. The friends served and enjoyed life together. They participated in activities such as hunting, fishing and white water trips. Bud met the love of his life, Laura Pearl Poulton, the sister of one of the friends, James (Ted) Edward Poulton. He married Laura on June 15, 1948. Five children graced this union. John (Elaine) Horejs of AZ, Douglas (Mary) Horejs of UT, Valorie (Spencer) Williams of ID, Paula (Andrew) Skidmore of NJ and Lance (Natasha) Horejs of UT. He was a man of service and served in many callings during his life as part of his Faith. Some of the most fulfilling times of his life were contemplated while working in his garden growing flowers and vegetables which he shared an abundance of with others. He loved to have his feet in the water and his hands in the dirt (mother earth). He would say "this is a part of me". He loved sharing the beautiful flowers he grew by making lovely bouquets and taking them to services at his church (LDS) each week during the summer flower season.
