Scott Baumert

April 11, 1947 — August 25, 2014

TWIN FALLS, Idaho - Scott David Baumert passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at home after a five-year battle with cancer. Scott was born April 11, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Andrea Barney and Herbert Otto Baumert. Scott moved with his family to Twin Falls in second grade and never left, attending Lincoln Elementary, O'Leary Junior High School and graduating from Twin Falls High School in 1965. After attending Idaho State University for one year, he married his high school sweetheart Kay Shorthouse. They began their family in 1967 with the birth of Nicholas Brent Baumert and shortly thereafter Jenny Nicole Baumert. Scott worked with his father and brother Barry Baumert at Magic Music Company/Canteen Distributor, ultimately purchasing it and renaming the business Baumert Vending and Amusement. In 1991, they sold the business to Western Music. Scott and Kay then embarked on a new adventure, buying the Christian Bookstore in 1992. Together they grew the business, eventually, moving it into the Roper Building and adding a Christmas & Coffee Anytime shop. With heavy hearts In 2004, they closed the doors. Scott then made the move to Washington Mutual as a banker and later a financial advisor for Chase Bank until he semi-retired and went to work for Western States as a bus driver for special needs students, finishing his last bus route in June. Scott was always involved in the community, his church and his childrens' lives. Through the years, he coached little league baseball, Twin Falls Parks and Recreation softball and boys and girls basketball. While fundamentals were taught, it was his desire and ability to teach life skills that touched so many lives. Scott served as a Cub Master and Scout Master for Troop 65, a Deacon and Elder at First Christian Church, and an Elder at Magic Valley Bible Church. At the time of his death, Scott was a member of the Twin Falls Reformed Church and appreciated the humble servant leadership of Pastor Brian Vriesman and Chuck Swoboda. Scott is survived by his wife Kay; son Nick (Karen); daughter (Jenny); grandchildren (Kelsie, Katelynn, Beau, Kylie, Tori and Scotlyn); brothers Herbert Barry and Casey Lynn Baumert; and mother-in-law Dortha Shorthouse. He is preceded in death by his mother Andrea, father Herb, brother Brent John Baumert, who was killed in Vietnam in 1966 and father-in-law Cleo Shorthouse. In Lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the CSI Foundation for an endowment scholarship towards a softball and nursing student. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday September 1, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Twin Falls Reformed Church. Those who wish may share memories and condolences on Scott's memorial page at www.magicvalleyfuneralhome.com
