Lela Rae Hayes Robertson Masters Lela Rae Hayes was born Dec. 16, 1923 in Purdin, Missouri, near St. Joe, Missouri. At six months old, she was swinging her way to Idaho. In the back of the car in a cradle (swinging back and forth). She came to Idaho with her parents, siblings and a cousin. The daughter of Ira Willis "Johnny" Hayes and Sylvia Barnes Hayes. She was the sister of Reta Hayes (Claud Wilhite), LaVera Hayes (Elwood George), and Willis Hayes. They settled in Eden Idaho. Mom was proud of her mother who was a National Who's Who of Women of the Year and did a lot for her community. Mom tried to do the same. After her mother died, Johnny remarried to Mabel and Mabel was the only grandmother Lela and her siblings family knew.Lela graduated from Eden High School. On Dec. 31, 1940, she married Joseph William "Joe Bill" Robertson, Jr. at the First Presbyterian Church in Twin Falls, ID. After a short stay in Moscow, ID; they settled on a farm in the Lucerne area of Buhl. At this time, Joe owned the John Deere dealership and GMC dealership in Buhl, Idaho. In 1960, they moved into town. Lela lived in Buhl until about the age of 85. Lela gave birth to Candace "Candy" Jo in 1945; Linda Lee in 1947; Billie Rae in 1956; and Joseph William "Joe Bill" Robertson III in 1960. Her husband Joe Bill passed away in 1968. Lela married Lyle Masters in 1970. They later divorced in 2006. Lela was grandmother of Angie and Clancy Carter; and Darby Robertson. She was great grandmother to Brad, Lacie and Harli Stokes and Kyle and Cameron Carter. Lela was involved in several organizations and held many offices, including President. She was involved in Order of the Eastern Star; P.E.O; Campfire Girls leader; Lady Shriner; Hospital Auxiliary; Buhl Clear Lakes Country Club; and many bridge clubs. She attended National Bowling Competition in Texas. She was also proud to have served a term on the Buhl Planning and Zoning Committee. Mom loved music and she had musical gifts. She had a beautiful soprano voice. She also played music by ear. She would sit down to a piano or organ and pick out a melody. Then she would be able to play the song. She spent many happy days playing one song, then another for hours on the organ. Lela also loved to dance and she belonged to the BC Dance Club. While in her 50's, she was a founding member of The Top Hat Tappers (an older women's tap dancing group). At first she was reluctant to perform. But she came to love performing all around Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming and Oregon. She danced into her late 70's, when a health problem with her feet stopped her. Lela loved to travel. She traveled to Spain, Portugal, France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany, Holland, England and Ireland. Plus trips with her sisters back to Spain, Switzerland, and France. She got to see the Real Mona Lisa and the fake one. She also got to see DaVinci's Last Supper. Other trips with her sisters included The Ozarks in Missouri; and Hawaii with their husbands. She took a cruise to Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico. She also took trips to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatln, and Mexico City, Mexico. She also took several road trips with her son and his family. In 2002, she took a trip with her daughters Linda and Billie to Jamaica; plus trips to Canada, most of the west, and Midwest. She and Lyle went to several National Auctioneer's Competitions. Lela is survived by her two daughters: Linda Carter of Buhl and Billie (Win) Henslee of Wendell, Idaho. Her son, Joseph William III "Joe Bill" (Ann) Robertson of Buhl, ID; grandchildren Angie (Jeff) Stokes of Salmon,. Clancy Carter of Twin Falls, ID and North Dakota. Darby Robertson of Hollister (Filer), ID. Great Grandchildren, Brad Stokes and Lacie Stokes of North Dakota. Harli Stokes of Salmon, ID, Kyle and Cameron Carter of Twin Falls, ID. She is also survived by her ex-husband, Lyle Masters. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, first husband Joe Bill Robertson Jr. and by her daughter Candy Stoval. Lela had many lifelong friends, many of who she will now join in Heaven. Visitation for Lela will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home 2551 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Buhl Presbyterian Church, 516 Main St. East, Buhl, Idaho with burial follow at 3:00 P.M. at Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls, Idaho.
