Susan K Haslam Pollard October 8, 1936 - July 29, 2014 Susan "Sue" K. Pollard passed away July 29, 2014 in Twin Falls, Idaho surrounded by friends and family at St Luke's Regional Medical Center. Sue was born to L.H. Speck' Haslam and Dorothy L. Cederquist in Twin Falls, Idaho. As a youngster, Sue lived in Twin Falls along Addison Avenue E., Filer Avenue W. and Falls Avenue. Sue attended both Washington and Lincoln Elementary Schools and was in the first class to graduated from the "new" Twin Falls High School in 1954. In 1955 she married Tom Blake with whom three children were loved, Steve, Melissa and Adam. As a young family they traveled around the Pacific Rim of Hawaii, San Diego and Guam, and the family really enjoyed time in Twin Falls when Tom served in Viet Nam. Camping in southern California brought many good family stories. In 1977 Sue married her soul mate, Roger J. Pollard, and added his wonderful children to the Twin Falls family, Christopher Pollard and Vanessa Pollard Chivers. For Sue this was a new adventure and the entire extended family came together in celebration of these fantastic years. With five teenage children and Roger's job keeping him on the road, Sue enjoyed taking care of the home front and also enjoyed traveling with Roger across the country. Their travels took them to most of these great United States, and the trips they seemed to enjoy most were in their own back yard of South Idaho. On ATVs and a fifth-wheel trailer, camping was a major part of their life, and Sue and Roger loved one another as they experienced the great outdoors. The family and close knit group of friends all benefited from the relationship Roger and Sue enjoyed, as long as Sue and Roger weren't losing at Gin Rummy. Sue was a talented artist even from her early years, and over her life the artistic media involved oil on canvas, wood, clay, stained glass, embroidery, and quilting. Sue's art work can be found across multiple family households on walls, windows and beds. Sue spent many hours perfecting her crafts, and her son Steve recalls from back in 1968 the task of shooting a 12-gauge shotgun at a wooden spinning wheel to give it the rougher, and the more antique look of old termite infested wood, prior to being "refurbished". Yes, Sue Pollard was an artist and was always giving her finished works of art to others. When her Grandson Tyler was born in 1989, Sue stitched together a book especially for him, "The Little Book of Numbers." That book has numbers and animals and is a wonderful teaching guide, and it was recently handed down to Sue's Great Grandson Ashton Blake from his dad Tyler. Tyler loved his time with Grandma Sue. Sue's daughter Melissa, shortly after being given a orange and blue Hawaiian patterned quilt, decided to trade with her brother Steve for another quilt that she preferred much more. With so many of mom's quilts between the two of them, trading back and forth was good fun. Sue was a member of the Desert Sage Quilters of Magic Valley and held many positions in that organization. She was also a member of the Over 50" Twin Falls High School Alumni Association and was their "records person" for several years. One of the most memorable group of friends Sue enjoyed was the Back Room Girls who used to meet every week in a storefront on Main Street, Twin Falls. Sue's son Adam loved to have fun with his mom, and dearly enjoyed arriving in May to celebrate his birthday with his mom, and catching large trout, preparing Costco beef for mom's freezer, and just loving his mom. Often times, mom was agitated about the fish guts in the sink, but always appreciated the delicious trout. She had overwhelming patience with Adam, even after he burned the toast on Elm Street in 1968 with TF firefighters responding. For Sue as a loving mom, she arrived in big fashion at Portland Golf Club to be treated to an exceptional meal by Chef Adam. Sue is survived by her loving children: Steve Blake, Boise; Melissa Blake, Eagle, Adam Blake, Beaverton, Oregon; Chris Pollard, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Vanessa Chivers, Summit, New Jersey and 4 grandsons; Sue is survived by her sister Linda (John) Pope, Livermore, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews who have been very helpful in her later years including Shelly McElliott and her son Corey Christiansen. Shelly and Corey spent many hours tending to Sue the last year or so. Proceeding her in death was her loving husband Roger, her parents Speck and Dorothy Haslam and sister Janet Haslam McElliott. At Sue's request there are to be no services, but the kids have no intention on obliging. The family will celebrate Sue's life together, at a date to be announced, with friends and family. Cremation is under the direction of Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls, Idaho.
