Helen Love Henriksen Benson Stastny was born February 20, 1917 to Louvica Love Henriksen and Bert Henriksen in Connell, Washington. The family moved to the farm in Lewiston, Idaho in 1917 when Helen was less than a year old. Helen attended elementary school in the Tammany School District. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1933, attended the Lewiston Normal School for two years and graduated from the University of Idaho in 1937 with a degree in History and a minor in Mathmatics. Her first job was in Buhl, Idaho in 1937 teaching Math. She married Benny Bernard Benson in 1941. While Benny worked for the Pet Milk Company, they moved from Buhl to Galt and Salinas, California and back to Buhl. During Helen's career, she taught math in Salinas, Calif., History in Lodi, Calif. and Geometry at Twin Falls, Idaho high school from 1961 to 1982. Benny passed away in 1984. Helen married Joseph Stastny of Murtaugh, Idaho on February 20, 1985.She was an avid gardener, bridge player and rock collector. She is survived by her husband, Joe and children Randy Benson of Tapanga, Calif. , Betty Benson of Eligin, Illinois, Dwane Benson (Connie) Moscow, Idaho, step-daughters Debra Stastny and Karen Zivin, three grandchildren, Todd Benson, Joel Benson, Audra Benson Johnson and 5 great grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to local animal shelters or the charity of your choice. Friends may call on Friday, April 4, 2014 from 5 - 7 P.M. at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Rd, Twin Falls. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 10:30 A.M., with burial following at Sunset Memorial Park.
