Darrell Dean Littler

Darrell Dean Littler, 84, of Filer, passed away at St. Luke's Magic Valley Hospital on Saturday, December 28, 2013 due to an extended illness. Darrell was born at home on the sixth day of October, 1929 in Waco Nebraska to Omer G. and Laura (Volzke) Littler. Due to the dust bowl condition in Nebraska in 1936, the family moved to Orange, California. Living in California until 1944, when they had to move the family again due to his father's asthma. Upon arriving in Filer at the age of 14, Darrell went to work for U.S. Seed Company. Then in 1950 when he was about to be drafted he enlisted in the Navy Serving aboard the USS Boxer CV21 and the USS Bremerton CA-130. After his honorable discharge on July 9, 1954, he returned to Filer, where he continued his work in various seed companies. In 1951, while home on leave he met Della Fenstermaker at a local dance. After his discharge and return to Filer he once again ran into Della at another local dance. On March 24, 1956 in Elko, Nevada they were married. This started the 57 plus year relationship that also included their working years as they both worked at the same time for Gallatin Valley, Bean Growers, and Kelly Bean. With Della retiring from Kelley Bean in 1990, followed by Darrell in 1994. From this loving relationship they had four children, Connie (Jerry) Freeman of Gooding, Sandra (Calvin) Milam of Twin Falls, Dean (Dawna) Littler of Filer, Cindy (Pat) Scheer, Sarepta, LA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Dusty (Rischelle) Freeman, T.J. (Jennifer) Freeman, B.J. (Katie) Milam, Amy Milam, Brandy Mason, Jerica (Brett) Meyer, Laura (Terry) Ward, Darcie (Boone) Upton, Darby Littler, T.C. (Brandi) Scheer, Casey (Heath) Warford. In addition he is survived by twelve great-grandchildren with one more due in February and his sister Pauline Haman of Filer. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Merlin Volzke. The family would like to thank all the nurses who cared for our dad, especially Lisa, Stevie, and Diane. We respect and appreciate all the things you did for our Dad. Friends may call on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 5 - 7 P.M. at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, 2551 Kimberly Rd in Twin Falls. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home, with burial following at the Filer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials in Darrell's name be made to the Taylor (TJ) Freeman's Beating Cancer Fund at any US Bank Branch.
