Viola Cooke Coiner 1916 ~ 2013 Viola Cooke Coiner, left this earthly life at the age of 97 years, 11 months, on Thursday, December 19, 2013 in Twin Falls Idaho. Viola was born January 12, 1916 to Joseph and Sabra (Skeen) Cooke. She lived her growing years with her grandparents, Charles and Margaret Skeen. Her love for the sports she would enjoy in later years was fostered in her school days, when she ran from school on Shoshone Street to her grandparent's home on South Main every day for lunch. She had a half-hour for lunch and it doesn't seem that she was ever late returning to school. In school, she was active in drama and she worked as secretary to the principal. After graduation She worked as a secretary for JC Penney's department store. On October 20, 1935, Viola married Charles Harvey Coiner. They lived in California where Charles was attending Stanford University. Following Charles' graduation, they settled on the family ranch in Hansen, Idaho. Viola enjoyed hunting and fishing with Chuck in their early years together. As her children matured, she became active in favorite athletics and community life. A favorite yearly family activity that Viola treasured was their ski trip vacation. She was a most accomplished skier, leaving no run on Baldy Mountain untouched by her graceful turns. An avid golfer, she won the Blue Lakes women's club championship and placed in many other tournaments. She also served as the president of the Blue Lakes Women's Golf Association and the Idaho State Golf Association. She also loved playing bridge and enjoyed the friendships she fostered in that activity. Viola was a volunteer in the Hospital Guild; she served as president and enjoyed many years assisting patients and children. Viola enjoyed a loving companionship with caregivers Susan Arnold, Sarah Dill, and Kathy Hall. The family is grateful for their care, and the assistance of Hospice Visions during the last phase of mother's life. Surviving Viola is her daughter Karen (Art) Lindemer, Chuck (Carolyn) Coiner, grandsons, Kent (Deirdre) Lindemer, great-grandson, Kai Lindemer and grandson Mark Lindemer. Also surviving is her brother, Harold Cooke, the only surviving sibling of seven brothers and sisters. A celebration of Viola's life will be held Monday, December 23, at 11 AM at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension on Eastland drive in Twin Falls. Private interment will follow at a later date. All services and arrangements are under the direction of Parke's Magic Valley Funeral Home of Twin Falls. Those wishing to share memories and condolences may do so at www.magicvalleyfuneralhome.com.
